Web browser question

When I've got SD Central open, and I click on a link from it, ie from this discussions site, IE always opens. I'd really prefer that either SDC, Wincustomize or Avant Browsers open. But, I cannot seem to change this, even though I've checked the little box in "Tools-Options", for either one. Doesn't matter. What am I missing? Any ideas?

TIA
Dabe

change default web browser to SDCENTRAL.

How?

Thats another story.

Morphium, it really doesn't seem to matter what browser is the "default"....... links from within the Discussion groups, are opened in IE, most of the time, and occasionally within the Disscussion group pane. The links never open with anything else.

For links in the skinbrowser I have to right click, choose copy link location.... then firebird gets it from the clipboard and loads the link. Just doesn't work with a direct click for some reason.

change the Windows Default Browser and then set SDC to use the system default...

Doesn't matter John, I've tried it with 3 different browsers, and the settings in SDC don't mean anything from within the Discussion groups.

That's odd, when I click a link inside the message board it opens a seperate IE window, but that is a setting I have changed inside IE to open a new instance of the browser when a link is clicked.

The samething when I have Opera set to default, but have it seen as IE. I wonder if Firebird has the option to do the same * be seen as IE *?

oh btw, I'm on dial-up until next week

I see what you mean about graphics insinde fo threads now and it do suck for sure...
Maybe an icon indicating graphics larger than 128x128 or some such could be added next to the subject so people on dial-up have the choice before clicking and ending up waiting an hour for a thread to load

Firebird does not have an "identify as" option that I am aware of..I have it set as my default and when I click any links I get Firebird all the time.. And thanks IP for the mention of the graphics, I do not get a chance to look at the Monthly Desktops ,because being on 56k, you can imagine how long it takes to load....

Thanks for your responses. Glad to know it's not just me. I suppose eventually SD will address this minor bug, and we can surf merrily along without that nasty ugly MS. Dabe

I may be way off base here but I used to have a program that set my default browser for everything. Didn't matter what you opened it would use the browser you told it to. Could something like that fix the problem? Like I said, I could be wrong...

Name of that program was set browser. I looked and I still have it. If you tell me where I can send it I will email it. Or you can try looking at www.pc-tools.net. I believe I got it from there, it was in there freeware section. Let me know...

actually Koa, I think SysMechanic will allow you to do it also

Mozilla Firebird is the best! Too bad SDcentral is stuck with IE.

Okay, it has a couple of bugs.

Can't find any option for that in System Mechanic. Downloaded setbrowser, set it up, and rebooted.  When I started Opera, it was no longer my default browser......... Set up as the default again, started SDC and clicked on a link.... Guess what? IE again....... I give up. grrrrrrrr

Koasati....Sorry set browser didn't work. I use netscape 7.1 and its seems to work for that. I got tired of IE opening for everything. I know thats of no help, but figured I would tell you I knew it worked for netscape.

Oh heck, sorry about that Koasati, it's in Tweak Manager...

TM from WinGuides gives you total control over just about every registry key...
