Exile??

I have just been reading over this message board (board am I) And there are a few odd things I have come accross.But one that really baffles me is this exile thing. I wont name anyone as i dont know anybody here, yet. But why is someone "exiled" if they state an opinion that is not in agreement with most others? Even when there was no swearing or bad language? Just an opinion.
Good or Bad.
Seems that the replies to these posts are alot more hostile then the original thread!! Im not saying anyone is stupid but even if what they say is somewhat unintelligable, does that mean he/she gets exiled? Wow very harsh. This one particular thread goes on and on for 4 or 5 pages. But the original author posted only once.

I dont get it.
I hope im not "exiled" for writting this. Is that not why we fight wars? Iraq?
so people are not punished for thier thoughts right or wrong, good or bad?
Sounded like he was letting off some steam but he did not flame anyone.

Sometimes it is the post that you can no longer see that did it. The one that went poof!

Or sometimes it is all the posts, long buried.

Or sometimes the warez that they seem to be using.

or...

or....

It is never just a simple opinion.

If someone is exiled for swearing or an otherwise offensive language that post is usually deleted. Which could be why you think it was just because of an opinion, which wouldn't be true.

Um... for a lot of problems people just write to the admins and work things out. They are very nice. Exile doesn't have to be forever. Sometimes it is just a matter of going to "edit account" and cross-referencing ones e-mail account so that the computers indicate that the copy in question is legitimate. That also removes the download cap for non-contributers.

Well, yes. Posts and entire threads are deleted for profanity (if the profanity is in the subject). This is considered to be a family site, and language or images not deemed appropriate for young children are removed.

As others have stated, the action/posts that prompted the exile may have been removed so you wouldn't see the cause. Some have been exiled for use of pirated versions of Stardock's software. As GM pointed out, some exiles are reinstated.

But people aren't exiled simply for having a contrary opinion in and of itself, absent disruptive behavior or a flouting of the rules of the site/messageboard. If stating a contrary opinion were enough reason to exile someone, many of us would have been exiled long ago.

come in swearing all over the place being ignorant after being warned, you get dinked...

Anyone currently showing up as 'exiled' on the message board has attained that status through exemplary qualification. Usually that is through the genius of colourful self-expression, though some have been sufficiently erudite as to complain that a warez copy of this site owner's program doesn't perform as was hoped.

Ultimately stupidity is its own reward...

Well joseph morgan joseph morgan (i am calling you JM ) this is a roblem, people should have thier right of speech but should not use harsh or offensive words. Like WoundedEagle. All he did was give his piece of mind an got exiled. but he used a harsh langouage.

There is one more particular case here at WC. UzEE. Who got exiled for using pirated softwares ( Which was never actually Prooved ), Keeps poping back (even a few admins and users think that i am him ). He created atleast 5 or 6 accounts that we know, but claimed to have a lot more at WC.

Problems like this should be solved by a proper method like a trial in a court. No one should be punished UNTIL They are prooved Guilty.

Ah......the Wincustomize.com site Admins/Moderators are the 'judge, jury and executioners' of fact.

This is not so much an 'opinion' but a statement of reality.

Think of a person's visible presence on a site as the white mice of HitchHiker's Guide To The Galaxy......just the physical presence in this dimension of a pan-dimensional being.....in other words what you 'see' here on the board is not always what causes/has caused an 'exile'....

I've seen exile be swift and concise, and those anvils that usually get hammered have more than deserved it... About the time I'm wondering, geeze, why doesn't an admin smoke this thread, poof! it's gone, shortly followed by 'nice knowin' ya.

Yeah, I totaly agree, stardock should do this the official way or let the RIAA get this kid, however that is not realistic. The fact he used illegal software IS proved, he claimed he did, and he claimed he used the 'legal' version too, however when admins asked for his serial he couldn't give it.

And yes, I do believe that you are UzEE, but that is just something personal.

um, ok, dont know about UzEE, and I dont know why my name is on here 2x, kinda funny. So from what I can gather, this site IS Stardock. Which is why so called "pirated" software is banned or something to that effect. yes?

Sorry, im a little confused by some of the replies here.
I guess I can understand why the topic is locked, not really going anywhere.

I have tried to find a list of guidelines and have not found anything related to this.
