Do you have the latest AdAware? Recently they snuck in a new build and that makes it so that the old build does not accept new update files.

I just downloaded Adaware yesterday, so I assume it's the latest one.

But I just found on Showbehind's web site that there is a way to opt-out. Thank goodness. I downloaded and ran their remove program. We'll see if it works.
But I'm still disapointed in Google for installing this crap in the first place.

showbehind does not come from the google toolbar. When i installed my desktop architect thats when mine showed up. all you have to do is run msconfig and uncheck showbehind. Then find it on your HD and delete it.

I just downloaded and installed the Google toolbar. And then I ran my Ad Aware and sybot search and destroy. No mention of showbehind. Google installed without ANY spyware of any kind...

IP.. Spybot didn't even detect it when i installed google. I think some other software installed it and paxx THOUGHT it was google..

Kona, I'm fairly sure it did. I haven't installed anything else last week, and the Showbehind adds started happening the very day I installed Google.
But I'll try to dig more info.

Hum, I can't find anything anywhere about Google installing Showbehind. Maybe it's not it. But it's really strange though, because it even seems to me that the popunders stoped when I disabled the toolbar. Anyway. The only other thing it can be is that it installed with some activeX thing from a website. I like to play online games, so maybe it installed itself with one of those games? I guess it's possible, but I went to those online game sites, and I see nothing regarding Showbehind either.

I dunno. Anyway, I think I got rid of it. That's the main thing.

If it still is lurking...

do a registry search from the top for "showbehind" and it should either have the enumerated keys and or the path to where any files associated to it are located.... Also, reset IE to the defaults on the Programs tab...

What's the bet that the Google bar just enabled the seeing of the pop-under.....which was installed via another proggy....and disabling Google therefore also 'hid' the pop-under/s....

I personally think the google toolbar sells your cookies to other companies who use google indirectly to give you those ads. I installed Google Toolbar & removed it within days because of all the pop-ups, unders, overs...blah,blah,blah and adware that suddenly started appearing on my machine and I religiously run ad-aware & Spy-bot and use norton auto protect & personal Firewall. I'm kinda sensitive to this stuff because I have to deal with it all the time at work when people call me and say their machine is running poorly only to find out they have downloaded & installed Google Toolbar, Weatherbug, Webshots desktop and they get that stupid Gator junk!

I have been using (off and on) google for about 7 months. I have had NOT ONE pop up or anything else.

You people just need to check you security settings and watch what you download.

Google does NOT come with spyware. Well it does come with its own spyware so it can tell you what the page rank is but you can turn it off.

I had an issue with adware on my machine and it was activated by Google toolbar for some reason.

I forgot what it was but it was in a thread I posted somewhere.

Anyway, a visit to some site gave me the ability to go to the registry and take it out myself (what ever it was causing the pop up and unders)

Now Google toolbar works fine.

(BTW it might be a program you downloaded and removed but it left you a present... AdWare)

You know, I downloaded something like that, (might be the same) I thought I had gotten rid of it until I visited Virtual Plastic http://www.virtualplastic.net/ The site told me it was still there & how to get rid of it.

I like the google search for default search, instead of MSN. I don't know how, but I had it for awhile, and then it switched back to MSN. I wanted it back but I didn't trust the toolbar, so I went looking. Here is a link to a tool that will make google your default search engine. It is not on the top part of the page (that is to make google your home page, but at the bottom.

Google bar most likely did not install Showbehind. Trust me I am a total privacy/anti-spyware nut, and I use it.
Yep a junky site could have installed it without you knowing or seeing a thing, using ActiveX. There are malwares on the 'net now that are exploiting ActiveX to dump crap on your machine without you knowing a thing. I have ActiveX allowed only for my Trusted Sites. >
