Fence portals shows vertical white lines on right side of the portal after reboot, log off, lock, etc.

When I reboot, log off, lock my tablet, etc., my portal fences display on screen vertical white lines on the right side of many of the portals. I have to  hover and expand the portal to make them go away. I use windows 10 and OneDrive. I have a picture, but see no way to insert it.

I do not have the picture icon immediately above so I cannot upload--there is the eye, and nothing to the right of it.

But picture a fence portal and on the right side when it is open there is vertical white slide bar to scroll up and down the folder, that seems to be captured on the screen on the right when the portal is closed. All I do is open up the portal, the white vertical slide bar is present and then close the portal and it goes away. BUT--This never happens when I use it. The vertical bars only appear when the computer is turned, rebooted, etc. I never see it happening when I am using it. Only after a reboot or lock, etc.

Fences version is: 3.1.3.3

Win version is: V21H1 (OS Build is 19043,1237)

Tablet resolution is 1920 x 1080 (at 125%)

Two attached monitors are at 1600 x 900 (at 100%)

I am an avid user of portals--I never have to drill down to operation folder, e.g., my docs.

I have three screens, but two of them have fences (which is my main tablet and one of the screens). You will notice white lines ends on a fence but is actually part of the fence above where it ends. So, starting from right to left, the top of first white vertical line ends on the bottom red fence portal, but is actually a remnant from the red line immediately above.

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: [link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

Does "Purge and Reinstall" require each fence and portal to be recreated! That would be a massive job and take at least several days. And before I started that, it would have to take hours to screen shot each fence and portal to determine how to recreate each fence and portal.  Finally,  simply creating the visual setup on the screen for all these fences and portal would a day or more. I run three computers in three locations, all of which are on OneDrive. The files on each computer and their location on the screen of each fence and portal is identical except for 2"x4" desktop work space (about 10 files) on each computer for daily work. I can go to each computer any time and work because they are identical.  Each computer has 3/4 terabytes of data, all files identically located--thanks to portals (mainly) and fences. If I move a file on one computer, within seconds it appears on the same spot on the others.  The physical location and name of each file in the work area for each computer is known by the other computers because a screen shot is taken when I leave one computer and it is sent immediately to the other computers in case I go to one of them.

Please advise how to proceed.

I have layout snapshots, but as I advised above, recreating the fences and portals on three computer would be a gigantic project.

I don't really understand what do you mean you have to recreate portals since you already have the layout snapshots. Which where you should have all your Fences saved and can be restore easily.

For each portal, I have to drill down to the folder (I know that there is a shortcut) and create the portal on the desktop, position it, and drill down to recreate each view--lots of work. For each fence, I have to find the files and move them to the fence and position them on the tablet desktop. Each fence (except 3) and portal is a hover and it opens, and some are at the bottom or top of the screen, and I have a hard time getting them to scroll up for the ones on the bottom of the screen and down for the ones at the top of the screen.

My question, is this a known fix or are you just taking a shot at it. Often, anytime there is a software problem the vender tells us to reinstall their program, and that is often just not easy to do and it is often just a way to get us off the phone.

My office has 40 or more computers. I use three. I have purchased Fences for each of my 3 computers. Once set up for my needs, it is an traffic program. I hate drilling down to a file (e.g., my docs) and the staff does not like doing it, so the office desktops are a mess. That needs to stop. Fences will solve the problem because they can hover and drop and drag. We are a law firm with tight security. To reinstall a program requires me or someone at my level--not easy to do.

So, is what you ask me to do a know fix or a guess. Is there a work around?

No, it should map back to exactly where it was.  You can test this on one of the 3 PCs you report you have it on.

Wow, did I read this right: "it should map back to exactly where it was"? Does this mean that each portable will be created again, in the same location and size and colors on the screen. Is this also true for the several fences that I have? Is it like a reboot, where the OS is sort of refreshed. I guess the best way for me to understand it is that the configuration will be returned.

The above would be very impressive so!!!!

Every Fence on my desktop (and in my snapshot) is a folder portal...

I  saw the video, and watched it several times. The desktop was blank when the video started. And then you clicked  the 10-7-21 screen shot and restored it. Is that correct? I am impressed. I had no idea that the the program had that power.

I assume that desktop was originally complete before you ran the program and  became empty after you ran the program to turn of Fences. Then you restored the desktop by selecting 10-7-21, which process is all part of the program if I am correct. Meaning the desktop was normal, you ran the program and shut off Fences and that is where the video starts and you then as part of the program selected 10-7-21 and restored it.

Can you run the program, which turns off Fences and pick any screen shot to restore? Do the fences and portals get put back at the same spot on the desktop? What should I worry about? How long can you wait to restore after Fences is turned off and get back the configuration? I have attached my main desktop page for you to review to make sure it will work--the picture is wider than the part down below--if you cannot see it the right side looks similar to the left. The second desktop page is just a serious of stacked portals in three columns.

By the way, thanks for your help. I have a large staff (about 40) and we are thinking of buy Fences for many of them. This would be helpful to work for security reasons.

Fences was not 'off', its just that all my Fences are folder portals so you would not see icons on my desktop (because they don't exist there) until I restored a snapshot that had them (the folder portals and the files they contain).

I highly encourage you to experiment with the snapshot option in your own current install. A sound test would be:

  • Take a current snapshot in Fences
  • Uninstall Fences, reboot (snapshots are not removed with an uninstall)
  • Reinstall Fences, do not have it do an 'Automatic layout
  • Open the Fences UI and restore the snapshot you created
  • Walla

I tried log onto Fences and find this. I could not. I found this in the email from you. How do I search this on the web site?
