Quoting basj,

Reboot might help.

Did not help for me. :(

Quoting basj,

Or did you have any other application or modification done on your Windows 11 Menu before?

No. Used the origin Windows 10 menu before in Windows 10. Upgraded to Windows 11 and didn't like the start menu. So I installed Start11. :\

I have a very reproducible set of bugs with start11

Start Windows, start11 working fine, then play a fullscreen game like battlefield or something (dunno if Origin related so i mention it)
Close the game
The menu will be in this alternating state where it switches between the start11 menu and the default windows menu

Here's the video showing it:

Using the Windows key works fine as shown in the video aswell, but taskbar flashes a bit and disappears for a bit.
Only way to fix is to restart the whole computer.

The other bug is also very annoying, basically if you open the menu while ur mouse is moving or move it RIGHT after clicking, your mouse will jump around the screen the menu will close and u might accidentally click something or open something.

In this whole video i never click the mouse after I click the start menu button, it's all just closing by itself from the mouse being in movement.

Thanks in advance,
Philip

Quoting siliconman01,

This applies to Windows 11x64 Pro (21H2 OS Build 22000.194).  The latest Start11 (Windows 10 menu theme) does not allow me to pin Internet shortcuts.  This is important to me because I need financial links, etc. pinned to the Start Menu.  Windows 10 permits this.

This is my first time for using Stardock Start11, so I hope I am not overlooking something.

What method were you using to pin the URL files to the original Windows 10 menu?  Right clicking on one doesn't seem to offer a pin to start option and dragging one shows a do not drag indicator over the start menu.

End of Neil's quote

Hmmm, lost my response.  What I do is create the URL shortcut on the desktop.  Then I manually create a named folder in the start menu at C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.  I manually move the URL shortcut into that folder.  This results in that named folder to appear in the normal default start menu of Windows 10 or 11.  I open that folder and right click on the URL short and select Pin to Start.  With Start11 as the default, the folder does not show up (even after a reboot).

Issue I noticed with Windows 10 style Start menu in Start11.

  • In Windows 10 Start menu, if you search for a program and pin it to the Start menu, the icon used for the file will be the program shortcut's icon (which might be different from the program's icon).
  • Start11 always shows the program's icon, even if the shortcut had a different icon.  (The shortcut's icon does show up properly in search, just not when it is pinned.)

You can test this by just going to "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs", changing the icon on one of the shortcuts there, and then trying to pin it in Start11.

Quoting ulknar,

I'm really liking how Start 11 works, but there may be a small function that either doesn't work properly, or I am an idiot and can't figure it out. In Windows 10 you can pin a file to an associated application in the start menu. Ex. right click on microsoft word, see a list of pinned documents that can be opened with microsoft word, Windows 11 default start menu lacks this function. I used the in place upgrade from Windows 10 to 11 and upon installing Start 11. I can see and open the files I've previously pinned (on windows 10) but I can't find any way to pin new ones.

It should be the same as on Windows 10.  Right click on the app and the jumplist should show.  You can make documents from the recent list become pinned by clicking on the pin icon on the right hand side.

End of Neil's quote

File explorer (as it appears pinned to start 11 menu) has a recent list that does allow me to pin things, microsoft word, notepad, paint, nothing else even has a recent list.

Noticed another one regarding the order of "shortcuts" on the left side of the Windows 10 style start menu.

  • I removed a bunch of items from the default list.
  • I added "Windows Explorer" to the list.
  • I moved Windows Explorer to the top of the order.

Windows Explorer always shows up at the bottom.  The other options in the list do change position when rearranged.  Are custom-added options locked to the bottom?

Using Start11 with Windows 11 and Windows 10 Style Start Menu, I'm unable to rename a group of Live-Tiles. Trying to do so always performs a search. I'm not using the Start11 search but the windows search.

I think that may be the issue.  I suspect the keystrokes are being detected as search input.

Thanks for reporting, I will make sure that gets fixed for the next update.

Sometimes when clicking on the Start Menu button, the vanilla Start Menu still appears with the Start11 start menu popping up behind it.

This is an annoying bug but when the start menu icon is in the middle of the screen or on the left side with the windows icon half the time when you open it, it displays the Windows 11 menu instead of Start 11. This doesn't seem to happen with the Start 11 icon. If you could change it where the menu is in the middle with the Start 11 icon that might fix the issue. This is with the RC1 0.90

Hello, I upgraded to win11 beta, but hated the start menu.

bought your beta, cool!

but it didn't have the windows 10 start menu.

Now it DOES! I installed it on win10 just to check and everything looks ok. One problem though, I dont get the search where I can go into settings like "control panel" or "add remove programs" just by typing it.

Is this because I have it installed on win10? This is an important feature for me.  It seems messy but I love it to find stuff on my PC.

Also, do we have the right click "pin to start menu" function?

Thank you for your work!

I upgraded to Start11 v0.90 and have a similar issue to siliconman01, above. Suddenly, many indexed files are unable to be immediately searched from its Start Menu.

For example: there are AutoHotkey scripts in its program folder that I'd type into the start menu and the scripts would immediately appear. However, this is no longer the case, so maybe an update affected its functionality.

I'm rebuilding the entire index, confirming that I don't have any excluded directories that I'd need. While going into Indexing Options, I noticed that Start10Ctrlpnl folder is indexed. Its specific location is:

C:\Windows\ImmersiveControlPanel\Settings\Start10Ctrlpnl

Does that also need to indexed with Start11 or just Start10. Since I assume that the Start10 assigned that folder to indexing, what is the reason for its indexing?

Thanks for your help

Edit: even after pinning a file to Start11's menu, it's still unable to be searched through Start11

If you switch back to the classic search option for now you should be able to search your existing items.  Right now anything thats not an EXE is being filtered from the apps list part of the search.

By program folder I assume you mean the start menu folder not the folder in program files?

When using the taskbar "align top" feature, the titlebar of your own apps are inaccessible...
I'm sure this will also be deemed "an issue with Windows itself".

This feature is the only reason I would have paid you for this app, and it does not work well because it's just using the free registry hack to accomplish the positioning instead of any actual program functionality to displace the title bar location spawn point based on the number of pixels displaced by the taskbar.

You can't blame "windows itself" because Microsoft didn't add/sell this feature, you did...

For the AutoHotkey scripts that had been searchable, they reside in C:\Program Files\AutoHotkey. I confirmed that this location is indexed.

Would switching back to Classic search means turning off this option?

Use Start11 search in the Start11 start menu

Shortcuts on the windows 10 menu version that have their advance properties to run in admin mode (So I don't have to select Run as Admin from its drop menu on the start menu) Are not running as Administrator, seem they get reset via the start 11 app even though their actual shortcut has been set to run as admin for all users etc.

That looks like the app may have remembered the coordinates it was located at last time and opted to reposition itself there via absolute coordinates vs workspace coordinates.

In which case it would happen regardless of Win10 or 11 if there is a taskbar at the top.

Whilst Start11 does use the registry option, it also has additional code to workaround some issues of that as that registry option is unusable once you run more than one app.  We do however make it clear in the UI that there may be unexpected behaviour.

No you would need to use the Use old Start10 style search option lower down on the page.

Things in program files like that would be searched via the search for all files vs apps and there is an issue with the new search getting stuck before it gets to those files which we are looking into.

That isn't a normal location for us to search however and I am unaware of us ever searching that location.

Would it be possible to add the functionality to delete the empty page, or allow the "Pinned" right hand portion of the menu to be collapsible all the way onto the main menu like you can in Windows 10 when it's empty?

End of shogran's quote

I too wish to see this functionality added. I like the Windows 10 Start menu but never use the pinned apps.

I have the "alternating menu" bug as well (the one posted by nighteyes); I noticed it only happens when sitting on the desktop with nothing open; if an application is open, Start11 comes up consistently and the bug doesn't occur. Here's a video:

Additional things I noticed:

-The Start11 menu doesn't seem to animate smoothly sometimes on a 144hz monitor; Sometimes it will be as smooth as the default start menu, other times it seems to run at a reduced framerate

-The app list doesn't not smooth scroll like the Windows 10 start menu

And a small feature/improvement request:

-The app tile grid in Windows 10 style mode is 3 blocks wide and there's no option for 4 blocks like in Windows 10 ("Show additional tiles in the Start Menu" in the W10 settings) (example below) 4 Tile Width

Im using version 0.90 Grid Modern Style and when i select all programs it now remembers where it was last scrolled to,

for example if i scroll right to the bottom where iv only got folders then close it, the next time i open all programs it still at the bottom with the folders instead of defaulting the list back to the top where iv a few programs

Using windows 11 pro OS Build: 22000.194
