Fences 3.1.3.3 - New desktop items appear on random monitors

This is for sdRohan of Stardock support

Hello,

I have a fresh install of Windows 10 21H1 with a fresh install of Fences 3.1.3.3. When I myself or applications create desktop icons they sometimes appear on the desktop of the primary monitor (2) as normal, but other times they end on another non-primary monitor (3). The only thing that is consistent is out of my three monitors new desktop items never appear on one particular monitor of the three (1), only the primary (2) and one other (3). This issue has been present in all versions proceeding 3.09.

I would like to help you resolve this issue. Please let me know what information I may provide to help.

Thanks

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. You can make a new Fence and create a Fences rule to send all your new icons/files that come into your desktop to be send into that Fence and put that Fence on your primary monitor. Something like screenshot below.

Hello,

Thank you for the reply. While that would be somewhat of a workaround it doesn't really address the issue. I want new desktop items to appear on the desktop of the primary monitor as normal as they did with version 3.09, not in a fence.

Do we just need to wait on a new version of Fences that corrects the issue? If so, I have found I can go back to 3.09 via Steam in the meantime, but I am happy to help supply information and test so the devs can come up with a real fix while I have 3.1.3.3 still installed. Please let me know.

Thanks

Everything for 1. has been done.

For 2. the registry showed //DISPLAY1 which is incorrect. I changed it to //DISPLAY2, restarted Windows, and created a couple of test folders on the desktop. That seemed to work OK. I will monitor for a bit and update you later.

Hello, today I installed an application called RetroArch and the desktop icon it created when to the wrong monitor. The registry still shows the correct display. Any luck tracking down this bug? This problem goes right away when I install 3.09. Thanks.

Does, RetroArch, somehow change the registry again? And does reboot helped?

Thank you,

No, as I confirmed the registry is the same. A reboot does not help. Is there some logs or something I can supply? I'm glad to hold off re-installing 3.09 to try to help you troubleshoot and fix this issue as long as good feedback is making to the developers. I don't want to run 3.09 forever obviously. Thanks.

Thank you. Quick follow up, I uninstalled Fences 3.1.3.3 and installed Fences 3.09.11. I then uninstalled and reinstalled RetroArch and the desktop icon for it was created on the correct desktop. This problem is not limited to only RetroArch, but maybe using RetroArch to test would be helpful.

I'm downloading and installing the stable version.

Does any other new app you install behave the same way... or no, this is the only one?

The issue is not limited to RetroArch. When I install applications that create desktop icons they often go to the wrong desktop, but not always. However it is consistent per application. Such as every time I install RetroArch the desktop icon will go to the wrong desktop and does not vary when running 3.1.3.3.

What about saving files to the desktop?

Sorry for the delay. It doesn't happen when I save files to the desktop. It seems to be limited to various installers.
