An update for Fences has been found... again

Every day for the last several days I get a message telling me that an update for Fences has been found.  The first couple of times I hit "remind me later", but I eventually installed it a few days ago.  The messages haven't stopped, however.  According to the "About" screen, I have v3.1.3.3 installed, which is the latest version.

If I click "Check for updates" in the About screen, it reports, "Your copy of Fences is up to date".  So it appears to be offering to re-download the version I already have even though it knows I already have it.

I saw in another reply that I can totally disable the update check with a batch script (https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#disablefences), but I don't want to do that.  I just want it to stop offering non-existent updates.

It's VITAL that after any update that the PC is rebooted as instructed.  Please follow these steps and let us know the result (also vital)

  • Install the update
  • Immediately reboot as instructed
  • Are you prompted yet again?

Will do.  This will take a couple of days, of course, since I have to wait for it to offer an update, get the update, and then wait to see if it offers the update again.  I declined it again a couple of hours ago, and it seems to be on a 24-hour timer.

A reboot post install is critical but we would not have thought timing was an issue - that if it is delayed, that this would make a difference.

In any event, for the few that have reported it (but enough to take notice), we want to see what the issue is and we thank you for your help doing so.

Yesterday around 9:20am, it offered the update.  I installed it, and let the installer do the reboot.

It's now around 11:30am, and I haven't been offered the update again.  So if it's on a 24-hour timer, it would appear that it has stopped offering it.
