After Windows10 Pro 21H1 Update, Fences Causes Intermittent Disappearance of Taskbar Icons

I have Fences installed on two different computers, both running Windows 10 Pro, 64 Bit. Within the past two days I installed the 21H1 update on both. Upon installation I found that on both computers, the taskbar flickers and all icons chosen to appear mysteriously disappear along with the "Show Hidden Icons" caret symbol. Intermittently the icons reappear and then disappear once again after a brief period. Changing graphics or display settings has no effect. As soon as Fences is disabled or the update is uninstalled, the problem is resolved. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Screenshots or video grab on the issue will help us understand it better. And your Windows 10 full version numbers, use Winver.exe to get that.

Hello,

I have just updated my VMBox to Windows 10 V21H1 (OS Build 19043.1023). And I did not see this issue. I would like to suggest, please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling. Just make sure to re-download the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

Thank you,

Are you also using Stardock Groupy or WindowFX?

I purged using the batch file, restarting then reinstalling the current version. As soon as the Fences service started, Taskbar icons disappeared. Same result after purging and installing the beta version. I also tried uninstall via a third party uninstaller which did scanned the registry for any potential leftover Fences entries without success. I can only conclude there is some other service that is creating a conflict. I'll attempt to disable services individually and in small groups and report back if I have any success.

I have the same problem after installing Windows 21H1, the taskbar in the lower right corner goes crazy.

Sometimes all icons disappear or lie on top of each other:

Windows Version 21H1cOS Build 19043.1023

Fences 3.1 Beta
Groupy 1.49 Beta
Start10 1.96
Windowblinds 10.87
Descapes 11 Beta

Tiles 2.0
In addition to taskbar icons disappear and reappear the TILES sidebar TABS disappear. I believe in sync with the taskbar icons.
When the TILES TABS disappear Right Clicking on the TILES sidebar does not work.

Same issue for me.  I updated Windows 10 on my Thinkpad X1 (Gen 5 7200U - dual core I5) today.  After restarting, the task bar icons started to flicker and disappear (right side only in notification area - exactly as reported above).  I checked windows forums for any problems with the update, and this fault was not reported.

So I did a complete windows reset of my laptop this afternoon (keeping data only, but all programs deleted).  I have been slowly adding my programs back on the laptop, and as soon as I loaded up Fences, the task bar disappeared again.   I checked the forum here, and found out others have the same issue.  I have loaded up Start 10, and it works OK - only fences causes this problem.

I have separately updated my other Thinkpad (quad core I5 Thinkpad X1 Gen 6) late last week, and there have been no issues with it at all, and Fences is working OK with no issues in Taskbar.

At this stage my laptop is working fine without Fences - but I will wait till this bug is fixed before I reinstall it on this laptop.

I have not installed Stardock WindowFX or Stardock Groupy, only Stardock Fences. This error occurred directly after the update of Windows 10 to 21H1.

I had to uninstall Fences, a normal work was no longer possible.

I note that Fences incompatability, since 20H1 Windows update, seems to occur only with laptops, or with less common screen definitions. My Asus desktop, displaying on a 1920 x 1080 monitor, is still working OK with Fences. My laptop is a Huawei displaying 3000x 2000, and 250% on screen scaling. I've gone back to Windows Start Page and taskbar is working again, with Fences 3 uninstalled.

I have the same problem after my PC update to Windows 10 21H1 19043.1023.

My monitor is 27 inch and resolution is 3840*2160, zoom in 150%

GFTrouper, rudylhm : neither of you have Stardock Groupy or WindowFX installed?

Also do you just have 21h1 installed or also the preview patch that Windows update may be offering? (KB5003214)

Neil Banfield, while you didn't specifically ask me, below is a list of recent update history:

Previously I had mentioned that I’ve got Fences and Start 10 installed. I do not have Windows FX or Groupy installed.

Last point, I've confirmed that the problem exists on my Asus Zenbook UX501VW and Microsoft Surface Pro 6, operating at native resolution both when using display or external monitor. The problem does not occur on my old Dell Inspiron 3650 desktop with identical 21H1 updates (including preview).
