Finding website icons for Object Dock tabs

Finding website icons for Object Dock tabs

Every now and then I want to add a website link to a tab in ObjectDock.  Once I've dragged the link to the tab, the link works but there's no icon to show that it's there.

For some, I can use one of the standard included icons or find one online, but for many I'd want to use the website's own icon - the one that shows on its  tab in the browser.  How do I do that?  I know how to change an OD icon on a tab: what I don't know is how to get hold of that icon from the website.

I'm running Win 8.1.  I'm guessing the OS stores such icons in a specific place that is accessible if you know where to look and have the magic passwords.  Where is that and how do I get at it?

I am not sure on how, never done it. But did a simple search online. And this website telling something that might actually work : https://jimcofer.com/2011/02/14/saving-website-icons/

AzDude & Basj - thanks to both for your help.  I had a look at the webpage Basj recommended and it lead me to the answer, though I think their explanation isn't perfect or universal.

They say "... and in most cases they’re located at www.domain.com/favicon.ico. "   I suggest that's misleading and NOT the immediate answer in every case.  If you go to SOME websites and add /favicon.ico after the domain name, that will indeed take you to a page with the icon, from where you can save it off to your preferred location.

I've tried that with a few websites.  It worked with the specific site that prompted me to ask the question, so that's now sorted - again, thanks.  It also worked with some others but not with all.

My initial guess is that it may depend on how "well" the site itself is written.  For example, on a club website that I know is not professionally set up it doesn't work.

Anyway, it's been something I've been meaning to resolve for a while - hope it helps others.
