Dual Monitor boot up Fences issue

I have two identical monitors off my GTX1050ti GPU. Running latest Win10.

When I boot my PC then if when presented with the login screen I access straight away the fences on my 2nd monitor are either missing completely or are there but empty. It can also crash my PC.

The left hand primary monitor Fences are fine, and the other apps that I have that startup on the right hand monitors work just fine......it's just Fences that is problematic.

If I boot my PC and leave it at the Win10 login prompt for 10mins then access, then Fences across both monitors are perfect.

I am using the latest GPU & Win10 drivers etc.

This was never a problem before I loaded Fences and when I just had icons spread across both monitors.

The problem is becoming boring, so am contemplating uninstalling Fences.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more on your system.

  1. Windows version, please use Winver.exe to get Windows full version numbers.
  2. Fences versions.
  3. What are those empty Fences? Normal Fences or Portal Fences and if it Portal Fences, linked to local Directory or Network Directory.

Hi,

Win10 Version 20H2 build 19042.746........I will say it did same prior to 20H2. It's been doing this for weeks.

Stardock Fences 3.0.9.11

Here's a sample populated normal type fence which would appear but with no files, folders or shortcuts in it. The size would be the same just completely empty.

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

Thank you,

Hi,

Ok I tried the purge and it uninstalled no problem.

I re-booted and logged on just as soon as the Win10 login prompt appeared. All appeared fine.

I then re-installed Fences but as soon as Fences ha finished installing it started refreshing my desktop, freezing the desktop etc. My icons in the system area of my taskbar kept refreshing.....all in all a rather bad explorer desktop issue.

At this point I could hardly do anything what with the freezing/refreshing but managed to get a few seconds in between to run the batch file again to uninstall. As soon as I did that my desktop came back to normal again.

So, I am forced to live with leaving my PC to process all it's background tasks before I log in, or leave Fences uninstalled until you Stardock fix this serious issue.

Could you please escalate this issue........Fences is unusable at this time. I await your reply.

I made the changes, confirmed they were still applied after a re-boot and installed Fences.

The same problem persists, the desktop (both monitors, right one is worse) hangs and refreshes....visious cycle....had to grab a few seconds to re-boot, wait 10mins before logging on and then uninstall Fences again.

I await your reply.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Are you using any monitor software like MultiMon, Actual Multiple Monitors, or NVidia Surround?  If so, and you disable it, does it then work?

If not, and you do a clean boot, does it then work?

Hi,

I am not using monitor software.
I won't be doing a clean boot unfortunately to test as I have put in a request for a refund already.
