Icon spacing inside Fences

Hi,

I've just installed Fences v3.0 and I encountered a problem. The spacing between icons is different than in my desktop. I don't see any option to change it. My friends don't have this problem.

I'm not talking about the size of the icons. Only the spacing.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more information from your system.

  1. Windows version. Please use Mircosoft's Winver.exe for full Windows Version numbers.
  2. Fences version number.
  3. Scaling applied to you display.(100%, 125%, 150% etc etc)
  4. Icons size setting inside the fences

Thanks

I have the same problem and I would be happy to see a way to decrease the space between icons. Apart from that, I realy like the software.

Using: Windows 10 pro - Version 2004 (Build 19041.610)

Fences: 3.0.9.11

Scaling: 150%

Icon Size: Medium Icons.

Spacing Example

It looks like this. The space between Icons within a fence is a little bit bigger then for items outside a fence.

Any news on this? Why does fences not just follow the registry setting?

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics

Hi there,

I'd like to add to this - on April 1st I left my computer with icons 'normally' spaced ... on the 2nd I was booting my computer up and I am seeing the desktop now 'completely off' due to the icon spacing having changed. Restoring to an older screenshot does not work as the fences are sized correctly but the icons now require way more space inside. I have not made any adjustments to either fences or the Theme or any other Display setting.

OS: Windows 10 Pro 20H2 19042.868
Fences: 3.0.9.11
Scaling: 100%
Icon Size: Medium

I saved the two screenshots (before and after) should you want to take a look at it.

I am using Fences since around the first version in 2009 and I am 100% certain I have never seen anything like this before

Icons Before re-spacing of Icons Fences one dat after with new Icon spacing

Best,

jan

Never mind - heeded the reply #11 from newsbox and indeed just re-booting another time did the trick.

Would still be cool if you guys could figure out what causes this - never seen this ever before.

Best,

jan

Is there any progress on this issue? The gaps between icons are just huge. It looks terrible. I want to buy a new version of Fences, but this bothers me so much.

The resolution I found was the registry value of IconTitleWrap, the default got changed from 0 to 1

For me changing IconSpacing in the registry did solve the problem (see picture in Reply # 17 from brian12).
Did set IconSpacing and IconVerticalSpacing from -1695 to -1128. Spacing is now back to normal.

Thanks for this.  Naturally, I would want to update this if its missing information

What value did you have there for that key (that made it 'wrong') and what value did you set it to exactly to make it 'right'.

Thanks.

The wide icon spacing happened after I had substituted my second monitor with a new one (of higher resolution) and switched primary monitors  back and forth.

The IconSpacing and IconSpacingVertical key values were set both to -1695 in the registry.

After setting both values to -1125 the spacing was back to normal.

Cheers
