Won't Open?

Won't Open?

I'm running Windows 10 on a HP Pavilion and I cannot get CursorFX to open.  I had the free trial version that worked for about 15 minutes then crashed completely, never to be revived.  I purchased ObjectDock last night, deleted the trial version then downloaded & installed CursorFX and IconPackager and I know they installed completely--IconPackager works just fine, I had to provide my Product Key in the last step of the install, both are showing in my Start Menu and the shortcuts were added to my desktop but every time I double click on CursorFX, I get nothin.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,  Jenn P.

Sorry for the response delay!!  I had to do a re-install of my Windows 10 so I'm slowly re-adding apps & stuff.  I'll work on CursorFX today and let you know how it goes.  The re-install may have fixed it (wouldn't that be lovely?)

I have little doubt that will fix it.  Do install CFX early to ensure it is not a settings change \ 3rd party app that is causing the problem to begin with.

Well, the Windows 10 re-install fixed it for a little while.  Now both CursorsFX and Curtains open for a split second then close again.  I found the below issues in Event Viewer--I don't know if they hold the answer, I'm hoping y'all will understand them.  There are multiples of each example, my Event Viewer appears to only be going back to the 1st, though.  And, interesting that I did not find Curtains in Event Viewer when I'm having the same issue with that app as well.  :)

Which strongly leads us to believe that you installed it, it was fine, then installed something else that is breaking it.  Do you know exactly what you installed or setting you changed after CFX was installed?

The apps with Object Desktop are the last stuff I've actually installed other than Windows, Intel & HP updates.  Everything but CursorFX was working fine until the night before last when CursorFX would open (and stay open) but then Curtains started opening & immediately closing.

The only settings I've changed have been to my desktop, cursor, and file/folder appearance.  If I did accidentally change some important setting (though if I get that warning about making the system unstable, apps may not function properly, etc. I'll back out and not complete the change--I'm not savvy enough to fix it if I broke something serious), would re-installing Windows10 the other day not fix it?  I did the one where you keep all your files it just re-sets your settings and packaged apps, etc.

And there are more of those 2 Event Viewer logs for CursorFX but they pretty much all say the same thing.  Weird how I don't have any for Curtains, though.

Y'all have been so patient with me...I sincerely appreciate every bit of time you've spent trying to help me figure this out.

Try making sure Windows Controlled Folder Access is off:

it is--it's been off this whole time.  So, after a couple of MMC errors & instances of store corruptions not being repaired, I discovered that I haven't upgraded to the Oct 2020 version of Windows. So I'm doing that now, hoping that will repair any corrupted files or whatever is causing the issue.  I'll let you know if it's successful or not (fingers crossed it will be--I really miss playing in Curtains).

Best,

Jenn
