Styl skinner, thanks a million. And before anyone gets the wrong idea-its not about download counts and top author rankings, its the fact I spent a lot of time and effort to put this together and would be nice if the little "folks" could have a chance to see it. If they don"t like it,they rate it low and thats the end of the story. When something gets rated high and it really isn"t that good, time evens it out.But when something gets rated low in the beginning it doesn"t have the same oppertunity-does that make sence

They don't fix the old roads here. Just patch them and patch them and patch them.

Wom I thought they only did that in Florida-the old folks just think they are hitting tourists and not potholes

Thats true to a point and about the only thing I still have a problem with here.Ratings determining visibility does give an advantage to the "better" submissions. Its supposed to be a bandwidth issue but it kills a dl count.1 point can make the difference between 300 dl's a day and 15.

Sometimes the "patches" can be nearly as devastating as the pothole!

Styl Skinner: I don't agree with what you just did. Rating someone's work as a 10 just because they complain on the messageboard is unfair and makes a mockery of what we are trying to achieve with the rating system. If everyone complains on the board about their ratings, are you personally going to go around "putting it right"? It's not your place to do that, ratings are there for a reason. Not many of us like the rating system, and you can understand why when it's open to abuse like this.

Did you bounce her out of the back of a pickup after hitting a chuckhole?

BoXXI-to some extent I will have to agree with you-but on the other hand I can"t help but appreciate what Styl skinner has done for me. No, I didn"t start a thread to cry like a baby to get better rates but rather mildly complain that the system in use has flaws. And everybody PLEASE DON"T START FLAMEING. The only way to make change is thru level haeaded discussion. One shouldn"t rate ones work high or low on ones personnal opinion but rather on the merits of ones work.I can"t speak for Styl skinner or others but maybe, just maybe BoXXi,they feel like myself that the present system needs some fine tuning.Brainiac ,I would never do that to grandma-okay it was a 4*4

As a matter of interest...I uploaded a photo of a bicycle frame I built..just for the purpose of explaining something....it got rated by some smart-arse a '1'....now if it is about hours involved then I'll tell you that just the front deraillier hanger took three full days to fabricate,,,by hand, in 1/8" steel plate....the frame is perfectly true and was entirely hand-jigged lug-less brazing...so, if it's all about time/effort/input then '1' is just a little 'off'...

*ahem*...... Any thread that can be titled "Question for an admin" should probably be emailed to an admin, or two, or all.

Yeah-I"ll no better next time. Course if I had did that we wouldn"t have gotten to talk about grandma

Jafo how does a front deralliuer hanger work? all the bikes I worked on the front derailluer just bolts onto the frame... the derailluer has its own collar and goes around the seat tube.

I am going to give you a 10, the frame is so cool!

anyways if i uploaded anything I would not care what it was rated at, i would just be happy it got in...

i was just saying i would be honored if anything i made made it here!

Yes kona it is cool to have your work approved-its just more rewarding to have someone download it-sorry

Kona....the frame pic was just an example of how ratings have no bearing on effort/input....hundreds of hours were spent building/designing/tweaking that frame.....considerably more time and skill than the 'I was bored so I fiddled with Bryce' wall uploads we get daily...

Re the 'hanger'....the better quality front changers come in either clamp on and braze on styles....the latter requires a bracket to be brazed onto the seat tube at the ideal height for the chainset...and is slotted to allow minor up-down movement.  When dealing with a non-standard wheel/frame geometry the hanger needs to be offset to allow for the different chainline, so a clamp on is next to useless...

yes I have heard of braze ons but only on road bikes. I have never seen a mountian bike with anything but a clamp on front changer.

It's an XT deraillier...which is modded from a clamp on version....bit more custom 'tweaking' on my part...

Maybe its just me but, I dont think most people here are going to give anybody a "10" rateing for man-hours. Sure alot of time, effort and skill go into doing what you do, but if its not appealing to the eye, after all, this is a site for enhanceing the cosmatics of your browser (or whatever), should people just automatically give a "6" rateing just for uploading. Maybe in the comments, let us all know how many man-hours and cups of java you have invested into a particular upload and we could make our calculations according to that.

Nevermind, I thought I was somewhere else. Wheres the coffee

bucben, I am not the one who moderated it, but I can tell you why it was given a "5" from moderation (or at least why I would have moderated it at that or lower). Please also remember that I work a lot with DesktopX since I work at Stardock, so I know what a well put together theme should look like:
1) The background is extremely low res. and looks like it was borrowed from a pic someplace on the net.
2) The "grass" of DWM is "borrowed" and oddly colored and oddly placed (looks slapped on, not carefully placed).
3) The bottom bar is resolution dependent and gets extremely wonky if not at the resolution that it was made for (the tray bleeds off the screen making icons non-accessible, the meters turn into overlaid goop, etc.)
4) the bottom meter does not flow with the rest of the theme and seems to be just stuck on
5) what the heck did you do to those fish? They look really bad
6) It's a resource hog.  Not sure why, but it is.  It's really eating CPU for some reason.  (I'd look into it, but I really don't have time).

There...you asked, so I answered.

Another thing Bucben, you have 4 DX themes on here, and to my eyes they all appear to be the same theme with a different wallpaper thrown in, none of which you appear to have made yourself. Hell, I could upload 200 new themes tomorrow if I did that with all my walls.

This is probably the main reason for it's initial rating, and why I dislike the idea of people rating something up because someone complains.  I hope this puts a little perspective on it for you.
