Start 10 UI broken with windows 10 2004 DPI scaling.

Have a 3840x2160 and 1920x1080 montor hooked up, windows set the dynamic DPI scaling to 150% and 100% respectively.

On the 1080p monitor the right and bottom of my start menu look like below. I believe this has always been the case even before the new 2004 release, no issues on the 2160p monitor at 150%.

Setting a global scaling factor fixes the issue,  but then tends to make one of these monitors almost unusable.

I am missing something as that looks normal?

Could you be more precise about what looks wrong?

Sorry I guess I should have been a bit better with my screenshot. Probably me blanking out my info caused some confusion too.

It should look like this...

But the funky DPI scaling displays like this, notice how the start menu is weirdly extended to the right and below, even covering part of the taskbar and start button itself.

Hello,

Please try the purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling. Reboot and Re Install the latest version from your account https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products/. Reboot, test and report back.

Thank you,

Same thing, this was a fresh install of 2004 and start10 anyways.

Hello,

You did the purge and reinstall but you still have same issues? If so please try cleanboot steps as mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#cleanboot

Try it and report back.

Thank you,

Exactly the same issue in the cleanboot state. I had to keep the start10 service enabled, but i disabled all other non-windows services and startup items. The start10 menu is still scaled incorrectly on the 1080p monitor as in the previous screnshot.

Also another issue I noticed while trying out the cleanboot state. Not only is the visual scaling incorrect, but I can not select any of the start menu items after about halfway down the menu.

Print screen does not capture my mouse cursor, but in this screenshot i am selecting "Resource Montior"

In this screenshot I am trying to select "Services", everything after the "Resource Monitor" will not respond to selection, a similar thing happens to all the start10 menus on this 1080p monitor. ie. Universal Applications, Personal Folder, all stop selecting about halfway down the menu.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

We just cant reproduce what you are seeing nor have we had any other such reports.

Does this also happen if you use the Windows 7 Style?

Do you have any other software that modifies the taskbar or are you using any multi-monitor software (DisplayFusion or the like)?

Also happens in windows7 style.

No other GUI or multi-monitor software. I have tested this on a freshly installed windows 10 2004 with nothing else installed, and have also put the system in a 'cleanboot' state as suggested above. It's the same issue in all cases.

Yes, but something is causing it where settings somewhere must be different than the norm - that is the logical conclusion with no other reports and our inability to reproduce it.

Does any DPI scaling change for the one in question resolve it - it is rendered properly at what DPI scale, if any?

Without Start10 installed, does the native Win10 start menu show any ill effects?

Flat scaling across both displays resolves it, any settings where the screens have different scaling %s show the issue. The windows 10 menu does not show an issue with/without start 10 installed.

Another scaling issue in start10, the rightclick menu is scaled incorrectly on the 1080p monitor.

This screenshot is from scaling to how many percent?

This 1080p screen is set to 100%, BUT.

My main screen is 3840x2160 @ 150% scaling.

So maybe the start10 bar on the secondary screen is still using the 150% scaling from the primary screen?

If I use a flat scaling across both screens (either 100% or 150% for both), then there is no start10 issue. But then one of the monitors is basically unusable.

Just to be sure, what is your Start10 version?

Wanted to post an update here, looks like v1.95b has fixed some issues (but not all).

Looks like the start menu on my additional 1080p screen is no longer improperly scaled, there is no longer a blurred extension below and to the right of the start menu like in my initial screenshots (OP and post #2).

However, the issues I outlined in post #6 and #12 are not fixed in v1.95b.

Hello,

Still, I can not reproduce your issue. Below is what I get when I right click the start button. With my other monitor set at 150%, its a 4K monitor. I wonder there is other application having conflict with Start10. Please try the cleanboot and see it can help narrow down that applications : https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#cleanboot

Try it and report back.

Seems I spoke too soon, issue is still there in 1.95b but seems to be less common now.

I've done the cleanboot steps in the past and it made no difference.

How did the issues show up again? What changed? A reboot? Have you tried to see if your system at 100%?

Please try the following:

-For Win8/10 Users: Open the Start Screen, and type 'cmd'. Right-click on the search result and select 'Run as administrator' from below.

-Type: sfc /scannow

-Wait for the scan to complete (this can take several minutes)

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system

If the SFC finds errors, but cannot fix them, please also run the following command in the same command prompt window:

dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-dism-command-line-utility-repair-windows-10-image

The above command should assist with replacing any damaged or problematic system files. Please note, however, since it may require restoring certain files, this process can take some time and you will need to be patient until it has completed.

Please let me know whether this resolves your problem or if you have any additional questions.

It has always been intermittent, nothing has changed.

SFC scan is clean.
