refresh of fences

automatic refresh

Stardock fences 3.0.9.11

Windows 10 Pro 1903

The content of some folders are shown on the desktop in fences. When adding new icons to the folders, these are added immediately to the fences on the desktop. When removing icons from the folder, they still appear in the fences. A manual refresh is necessary of this fences

I don't find any option in fences to force refresh automatically or automate something through powershell.

-Is there an option to force auto refresh automatically (with time interval,...)

-Can fences be automated with powershell? (to force a refresh or other actions)

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know is the issue on Normal Fences or Portal Fences?

And if the Portal Fences, is the Folder located in local drive or network Drive.

Thanks

The folder is located on the local drive. Also the shortcuts inside refer to a file on the local hard drive.

I can't reproduce this issue on my system. All files on my portal fences update accordingly. Either copy and paste from different folder into it or delete it off. My portal fences update itself instantly.

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling

Make sure to re-download the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall Fences. Reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back.

Thank you,

Re-install will be hard. An integrator installed this. This is on a 100 inch touch screen. So it's locked down for admin use.

Is it possible to activate any kind of log of fences, to see what it's doing in the background? icons added, removed. Folders added on desktop / removed?

Which may be part of the problem.  Perhaps get with your IT people to see if they can allow for a reinstall or shed light on why you are experiencing this at all - what policies are being employed that may hinder how Fences functions (it runs in the Windows Explorer process).

Manual refresh of the fences work. How can they have blocked this if no automation of fences is allowed? Can this be the antivirus program?

A log of fences is available?

It not 'blocked this' - more about what settings (Group Policy) they have for each PC / user.  Again, they may be able to shed light on any issue as they know what their settings are per PC.

I too have occasional issues where Fences does not refresh the desktop properly.  I have my browsers set to download to the desktop and use a download manager (IDM).  About 20-30% of the time, once the download finishes and my download manager puts the file together and places it on my desktop, the icon is missing and I have to do a manual refresh to see it.

I use a regular fence that's organized as "place all new icons in this fence by default".

Hello, @ AStardockUser

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

I would try without the DM ( IDM ) to test and

see if you still have an issue .

Hi,

Just tried to download fences again to my desktop for testing purposes:

Attempts 1-3 (With download manager):  icon displayed properly.

Attempt 4 (No DM): icon displayed properly

Attempt 5 (No DM.  This time I didn't delete the prior download and let it download  a duplicate with a (1) automatically added to the name):  NO Icon Displayed - Refresh Needed to see it.
