Start10 1.8

We noticed that when installing Start10 1.8 it it does not remove the older version of Start10 on the current machine. It will show the latest and previous versions as separate software's within programs. However, if you try to remove the previous version via control panel it will actually remove both previous and latest versions.

From previous versions, it would update the currently installed version and not leave any orphaned versions behind.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

as reported in other posts , if you delete both versions then reinstall 1.8

then just the one version will show in programs .

Hi,

We are trying to avoid that. Is there a fix for this? It worked just fine when upgrading from older versions.

Just following up on this.  Since we have a user base of close to 100 devices this is quite a bit of work to have a clean CONTROL PANEL not to mentioned or inventory reports on which software is installed on machines.  Is there a plan to fix this installer issue?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try the purge and reinstall steps again. https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling

Just make sure to re-download the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall using the latest version you just download. It is recommended to install into it default directory. Reboot again and retest. Report back here.

Thanks

Tried the purge again and tried installing the latest version. Same result - "decompression error" when installing. i have to cancel an abort the installation.

Not sure if this info will help - I used a "forced uninstall utility" before using the purge

This should have had its own tread created.

If you have not, redownload the installer - do not use the one that is giving you this error.

If that one fails, temporarily disable your AV software - including Windows Defender:

If that fails, try disabling Windows controlled folder access:

Hi Sean - Do we have any update on the revised package ?

Hi Sean

I seem to have other windows 10 problems as I cannot access defender and controlled folder access.

I'll have to resolve the above before reverting back to you

Still pending as other issues appeared with Windows insider build that need to be looked at.

Also, this is not actually accurate:

We noticed that when installing Start10 1.8 it it does not remove the older version of Start10 on the current machine.
End of quote

It does replace the install/files, just does not remove the one entry from Add \ Remove (registry entry) - there is no more space being taken up, its just that entry.

That said, you can manually remove it (or script it if doing many):
