Trolls.....

I kind of wonder if starting a thread like this only brings attention to trolls that they desire and therefor feeds them. The best way to deal with trolls is to ignore them.

Trolls are looking for a reaction. Trolling is like fishing. They set the flame bait, and those that respond are the fish that bite the bait. If you respond they win.

well, actually with any badly behaving dog you can either beat the hell out of them, or ignore them.

Beat the hell out of them and they figure they are getting the attention they needed to begin with even if it is negative attention.

Ignore them when bad and reward them when good and you change the animals personality. That or you get ride of it.

Trolls are out to get a rise out of people. A dog that behaves badly does not yet know the rules or does not comprehend. Trolls and dogs are completely different.

You can stop most trolls without much fuzz, but some (like Teddy) can only be stopped by removing their posting abilities.

Trolls only exist on Wincustomize in my experience... I never see them anywhere else... gee, what does that tell you?

Troller is looking for a response...ANY response, and he will chum the waters with complaints, insults, compliments, and inflammatory tidbits hoping that someone...ANYONE, will take the bait. Generally quite harmless - practices a form of catch and release. Nonetheless, he can upset the delicate ecology of a discussion forum. Once a forum becomes aware of his presence, however, all feeding activity ceases and Troller must move on to more promising waters.
