I just got service pack 1 and...

my pc is SO SLOW now. It runs better with window blinds disabled now. Is there an app I can tell window blinds to ignore? Why is my sys SO slow? I have 256 megs of ram Xp home and a 1.7 gig processor. Help?

Check in 'add and remove programs' see if Hotfix Q811493 is installed...if it is un-install it and re-boot........

the update Q811493. I can uninstall service pack 1 but I'd rather not. It has helped in many areas. Do I need more ram or is my oc jacked?

That's the right one....pull up Windows Update, scan and see if it shows 811493 as available, if it doesn't it means it's on your machine (you need to get rid of it) Click on installed updates and see if it shows there..... there's always hope........

leave it there...on some PC's SP1 (in either flavor) badly degraded performance. As long as you archived old files when you installed the service pack you can un-install it. I would try that and see what you get insofar as performance returning to normal. If it fixes the problem, run without it.

People ran their machines a long time with no problems before SP1 came out and considering your machine doesn't run with it, I would say you would be better off without it.......

Ok, last thing, you said my files needed to be archieved. my important documents are on another hard drive. are you sure uninstalling it wont to weird things? (I am too paranoid...)

Your old files (XP System Files) had to be saved before you installed update...it's only going to change those files..nothing else. All your personal files are safe no matter where they are.

Yes, my machine took it (although I did have to go back in and get 811493 out). Take your Windows Update OFF auto. You can run a manual listing of updates after you un-install SP1 and see if there are any that you might really need on your machine (although that's easier said then done). If you install any of them set a Restore Point before you install it, that way if it causes a problem you can go right back........
