Fences causes Windows 10 64 bit Vers. 1903 to be SLOW and UNUSABLE

Windows 10 64 bit May 2019 release (not preview build)

I did a fresh install From the Windows Download site (May 2019 release) onto my notebook and like always loaded Fences via Object desktop Manager. When loaded Fences stops responding and hangs system for over 5 minutes. Then it seems to work but really slows things to a crawl.

Boot and reBoot takes 5 minutes or more (when it does reboot fully) but usually hangs.

NOTHING from below posts resolves problem other than removing Fences (when and if the computer boots to a usable state). This then COMPLETELY SOLVES this problem. Perhaps a new look at Fences compatibility with Windows Vers. 1903 (May update).

Did that. CMD window did not find any of the Registry entries. On attempted reinstall the same problem ensued.

Perhaps the current Fences IS NOT compatible with the Released version of Windows 10 64bit 1903?

NOTE: It was COMPLETELY COMPATIBLE with Pre-released versions. When The released version of the May 2019 update became available I did a complete clean install of it: Windows 10 Version 1903.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

How many icons / files are on your desktop?  How many Fences do you have?

3 fences 25 icons spread between them. I have reinstalled Fences and it STILL slows a warm or cold boot considerably. However, Fences does run. Now that the computer at least boots in 1903, I would appreciate it if Fences did not cause so much of a delay in booting.

Are there any updates to this? Apparently, this is a widespread problem.

No, it is not widespread. If you experience pc slow down and unusable. Need to know more.

1) Windows version. Use winver.exe for the full version numbers

2) Fences version.

3) Explain to us how slow and unusable it become since you install Fences.

Thank you,

It is widespread, I'm having the same problem. Icons are VERY slow to select and move.

Running a Ryzen 5 2600x

with 16gb of ram and a gtx1070  on the latest version of windows 10.

Not widespread. I had no issues with 1903, and I am now running Windows 10 Pro 1909 with no issues.

anyway, I paid for a piece of garbage that is running like shit because it was coded by monkeys instead of programmers. Almost all of the object desktop suite is bloatware. Running poorly on top of windows 10 instead of trying to work in symbiosis with it. Classic shells runs waaay better than start 10 menu and has almost better customisation for free. Fences, I still use it because it is the only software giving me a way to customise and rearrange my desktop but believe me I would have chosen something else if it ran better. I use 3 monitors with fences all around. The icons replacing themselves are sluggish and selecting them is painfully slow.

Now THAT is the way to get support.  The monkeys love it when they're acknowledged....

I use WindowBlinds, Fences, Start10, WindowFX, cursorFX, IconPackager, Groupy, DeskScapes, Multiplicity, DesktopX, and objectDock on several Windows10 rigs with very few issues.

If you really think the devs here are monkeys, I suggest you go elsewhere to get your software.

I also use 3 monitors. Just saying.

I don't care, I pay for a product and it should be working as advertised. Without me having to come here and complain.  Fine if it works for you. It doesn't for me and I got a fresh install, newly build computer with pretty good and standard components. If it was only one of their product that wouldn't bother me as much but it is their entire suite that is bloated and unoptimised for my system.

That exact same comment can be directed to Microsoft.  The OS you are using is what is buggy and a direct cause of other programs being less than 100% perfect.

It is sadly a reality thrust upon the USER by MS, and the cynical would argue that is why 10 was a 'free  upgrade'.

However.

Nothing is ever entirely outside a solution.  The response here [#11] may be your salvation.

Let us know [here] whether it helps.

********************

On an aside, Windows 10 essentially 'bricked' an entirely capable laptop of mine [twice].

First time was an upgrade from 7 that bricked the BIOS.  I got around that, and eventually finished the upgrade.

Second time was a full-clean install of a later/newer 10 ver.... [because the original 10 had a failed update process and refused to update fully].

THAT install was then toast by an included MICROSOFT driver [go figure] and required considerable research to find a work-around.

Again, success....but every issue was a fault by Microsoft's programmers, not the user/installer.

Like it or not, all Windows 10 releases are public Betas....the Insider Builds are just worse than that....;)

Still need to know what version of windows 10 you are on. Please use Winver.exe for full version numbers.

And

If you have multi-monitor please also review this guide : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#multimonitor
