Crusade or vanilla GC III?

Hi guys,

I was absent for a long while from the GC universe. I got a couple DLCs, and Crusade, but not the most recent Intrigue addon.

Is there a simple way to play either vanilla GC III _or_ Crusade without de-installing someth. in Steam?

My in-game menu shows the Crusade title pic, and says I'm on v 3.05.

Hi,

There is a launch option which I believe is "-DisableDLC "Crusade"  after reading

https://steamcommunity.com/app/226860/discussions/1/1520386297677536838/

I'm not sure about the exact syntax - ie whether you lose the first inverted comma since I imagine they should match - so perhaps somebody else can help.

(I presume you know but you can do this in steam if you use it by right clicking on properties and set launch options).

Cheers,

Jon

Thanks for the quick help, works fine (indeed without the first _"_)

Coming back to this, I'm on a much better machine (6core i5, 16GB RAM) now than a year or so ago, but I don't remember AI turn times being that long back then? Or is this simply wrong memory...

Playing vanilla, huge, 12 civs, mid-game there is quite some waiting each turn.

I wanted to try Crusade now, is that better performance-wise?

That aside it turned out I'm now terrible at this game :D How do I get to Fast Assembly for the Yor, btw. I do struggle quite a bit with them robots now.

can't answer specifically for the Yor, but playing my own custom race, I discovered I sucked too ;)
I restarted a game at normal to learn the new mechanics, techs, etc until I was ok for higher difficulty.  It's a step back, not a retreat! ;)

Many buildings now require some resources to be built, and for Yor, I think they require Durantium to grow their population.
See this thread here, it might help:

Thx for the answers guys. Load/Save time is fine for me, just Ai taking their turns could be faster.

I gave up on the Yor for now, and changed from playing vanilla to Crusade. I really like the new stuff, so far it's even overwhelming,

However some questions:

1. can't minor civs be negotiated with anymore in Crusade? I never can speak to them ("pre-warp" message) - or does that change throughout the game? If not they'd just sit there until someone finally conquers them...

2. can I transfer citizens from one planet they are assigned to to another? The "transfer" button in the citizens tab is always greyed out - so can I only assign a citizen once, then need to stay with this choice?

1.  Minor civs have been nerfed in Crusade.  Pretty much, you can create a trade route with them, or take over their planets.

2.  Some citizen types (but not all) can be promoted to place them back in the global citizen pool.  This will cost resources (usually Promethium, I think).  They can then be transferred to another planet.

Thx for the replies :)

Just one more q' re citizens - the "epiphany" promotion for scientists - does it basically rush any currently researched tech, regardless of tech cost?

Hi,

Yes it rushes anything and therefore is pretty essential to success. I normally use it for large and huge hulls. expensive weaponry, some government techs earlier on which are transformative and take too long otherwise; and once I've started taking planets and their scientists with them, practically anything expensive. (Indeed if I'm going for a tech win I normally store up three scientists to do the final techs in a single move).

They're one of the biggest differences between Vanilla and Crusades because now that "Unfortunate Genius" has gone (which randomly finished a tech when you opened up an anomaly) there is no equivalent accelerated path in vanilla.

Cheers,

Jon
