Fences does not start on Windows 10

Since my last update, Fences is not starting on boot.

when I force it to start (right click on desktop and the "Enable Fences", I can see Fences for one second and if fails afterwards with the following error:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fences has detected that Explorer was not closed properly. As a precaution, Fences has been temporarily disabled.

To re-enable Fences, right click on your desktop and choose "Enable Fences"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've made a fresh install, several reboots but the issue persists. And I never had errors on windows explorer , so I don't understand the error.

I'm using Windows 10.

Anyone has experienced this?

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try the purge and reinstall steps. https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling

Get the latest version from your account, reinstall and reboot. Report back.

Thanks

Hi,

Tks for the info. I've executed the bat file, made a restart. Installed Fences again, but the problem persists.

Any idea why?

Tks for the reply.

Tested with a new admin user, but had the same error message.

Any idea why? Any option to start this on safe-mode, or similar?

Hello again,

Please try the following:

-For Win8/10 Users: Open the Start Screen, and type 'cmd'. Right-click on the search result and select 'Run as administrator' from below.

-For 7 Users: click Start, in the start search field type 'cmd'. Right-click on the search result and select 'Run as administrator'.

-Type: sfc /scannow

-Wait for the scan to complete (this can take several minutes)

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system

If the SFC finds errors, but cannot fix them, please also run the following command in the same command prompt window:

dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-dism-command-line-utility-repair-windows-10-image

The above command should assist with replacing any damaged or problematic system files. Please note, however, since it may require restoring certain files, this process can take some time and you will need to be patient until it has completed.

Please let me know whether this resolves your problem or if you have any additional questions.

Thank you,

Hi,

On the first run it found issues and sent a message saying that were solved.

Made a second execution and no more issues were found.

Afterwards, removed Fnces, made a reboot, installed again. Now Fences is up for one second and I can view it on desktop, but afterwards it fails.

Any idea?

Hi,

Could you tell us your version of Windows 10 and Fences installed in your system.

Thank you,

OS Name:                   Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise
OS Version:                10.0.14393 N/A Build 14393

Fences 3.0.9.11

Removed all my files to a single folder in desktop, because I've seen several issues reported with network shortcuts. Didn't solve either.

If that is all you did, and not a full clean boot (disabling all but MS services), then the test is not complete.  Please do so if indeed you have not.

Are there any updates to this issue? I have been having the same issue for a few months after a Windows update and would like to use Fences again. I am running Windows Enterprise Version 1803 OS Build 17134.228. I followed all of the above recommendations with no luck. It looks like it crashes the display driver when it attempts to start. I have a GTX1080 installed with driver version 399.07.

Again, for both issues, a clean boot, where all but MS services are disabled, under a new admin account, needs to happen for us to continue to assist.  It does not appear that this has been done for either.
