WindowBlinds 3.51 available

I believe I've got all the enhanced, ODNT, and Stardock Central installers properly updated now. Use the form at https://www.stardock.com/support to get the enhanced links and serials or your CM/SDC as appropriate.

Customers who's ODNT subscriptions have expired, please contact sales@stardock.com with your serial. They have a link that you can use with the CM to get 3.51.

Any other specific questions on this, email kwilas@stardock.com rather than support. They have enough with the people who aren't reading here for info on this matter.

Methinks that something is broken in 3.51. Taskbar doesn't skin and closed tabs look black (in SDC ).

Is it still available or has it been pulled? I saw 3.51 on Stardock Central at home last night, but today at work (NT4), SDC is still showing 3.5a which is already installed, but the date is 06/02/2003. Since it is the same version number, I can't download it without uninstalling first, and I don't want to do that until I know I'm getting the right version.

My SDC shows:

Windowblinds 3.5a ........ 06/02/2003

I guess I'll have to try uninstalling and see if that works.

Ok, deleted all the .xml stuff in the SDC directories and now it shows up. However, they forgot _again_ to allow the installer to install on NT4 so I'm still stuck without WB until they get the installer changed.

Ben,

Please email support@stardock.com about your issues.  There is no reason for it to perform like that.

We are still working on 4.0 for older versions of Windows.  You must understand that the technology in XP allows for customization.  Bringing that same technology to an old OS is quite a bit trickier.

For all people having issues with Stardock central (SDC) I will post here also, cause I could help some people with that :

Watch closely, where the programs are installed. Maybe You have 2 different versions of the programs in 2 different folders (c:\program files\stardock and c:\program files\object desktop). You can set in SDC, where it should install the apps. Also make sure You have the SDC temp folder empty before update something. That's another parameter You can set. I would recomment to save all skins and themes to another location, uninstall all apps und re-install them again via SDC.

This could solve some issues.

Indeed c242, I just spent three hours trying to get WB 3.51 to install. It wasn't untill I discovered I had WB in both OB and Stardock folders in my Programs. When I removed them properly, everything fell into place as it should.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled I have used that ODreg wipe that stardock supplied and the whole 9 yards...I am not a netwerk a+ certified computer person, Just an average user I have taken several A+ classes and feel that I know enough to really use a computer effectively...I have never had so much trouble trying to get this stuff to work properly...I just uninstalled everything again all the way down to and Including the CM..Removed all files and directorys and the reg files and the uninstall files...Reinstalled everything and it still will not skin anything..I have all the boxes checked in settings and all the advance and performance boxes..Belive me when I tell you it was completly wiped out....I have also only been abler to install and use CM on my computer at work..Then I have to Back it up take it to my other computer that is mine then Restore it....When I ordered OD they said it included all software..What they neglected to tell me is that to get the software you have to bew coonnected to tyhe intertnet..Hence the Back up move it to my computer to make it work....You Guys at Support have not been able to really help me on this and It sucks......I removed Style XP to switch to OD because it seemed so much more well done..Guess I was wrong and OD doesnt care they also Mislead you in sales..bY TELLING YOU YOU ARE GETTING THE SOFTWARE WHEN ALL THEY ARE SELLING YOU IS A LINK TO THEIR WEBSITE,.......for 50 dollars I think you should actually get the software not a CM link set up.....

Drop125 : Sorry to hear that, but I wonder why thousands of other people don't have the same problems ?

And it has become quite usual to buy a download-link nowadays, even Microsoft does that and every shareware prog I purchased...

Um sorry to inform you I know of 3 diffrent people that Have purchased OD now and they all have the same Gripe....

Well, I think, for what it's worth, I'll stick in my two cents....I have had OD for 3 years and have never...repeat...never had problems with any of it. Since I make computers for a living, I can only state that it has been my experience over the years that nine out ten computer 'problems' are the result of the operator, not the machine. Maybe some of us should sit back, take a deep breath and retrospect a little....

Just a thought......

When my WB 3.50a "expired" and I used CM to DL 3.51, only to be told that to install 3.51 I had to use SDC which as you can imagine only showed 3.50a updated to today, I was a bit bewildered. But then when I discovered WB 3.50a and 3.51 in two different folders, I uninstalled them, and even had to drag one out and into the trash by hand as there was no uninstall file. Next thing I did was run WinCleaner from BLCorp.com and cleaned out all the useless dll's and then the registry. I rebooted, came online, cranked up SDC and there was WB 3.51. as if by magic. I DLed it and installed while online and bingo, everything worked right as rain.
I simply guessed my way through the whole thing.
I use Windows ME.

Ben (Drop125) before people start pounding on you, I would suggest taking my advise to email support@stardock.com

The component manager is necessary since it is a *service*.  you obviously don't understand how Object Desktop works.

Please email support@stardock.com as this is a Stardock issue not a WinCustomize issue.

I never sais it was a win custom issue..Let me explain a little better...I caslled stardock to inquire about the whole OD package...Well first off let me also say..I have a Assoc Degree in computer and electronic sciences...So I think the fact that I also work completly in the industrial side of the computer world..To reiterate I am not A# certified. But I tech support calls from It Managers on how to run their system allday...Now back to the problem..When I spoke to Stardock they said you could down load all software after I purchased the OD package. When I informed her that the computer I had was not online she Said..."you can just instal it at work on that computer then Back it up and put it on your computer....as long as we dont see multiple IP address on your account then you will be fine." Well lo and behold your computer denies you an install unless it can authenticate your serial # on line.....She knew my computer was not online and informed they had workarounds for such issues....What happens is every couple of days WB locks up or fails to properly load then I have to go back and uninstal everything to make it work again..also it will sometimes emulate a freeware install in that it will not skin everything like it should IE scroll bars and D boxes. I fell that she should have knowen that Trying to do this would end up being really hard because when you backup and repair it Refuses because you have to be online for Authentication....Now I know it is not a win custime issue, Its just that Stardock support Basically said Tough We cant really help you out..Although they Did suggest that I shell out another 5 or 10 dollars to get the CD rom....But jeez Why should I throw more money at the problem????
And to Karma Girl...I hear your reply to email support..Im sorry but they just really havent been very helpful and I really feel that I was mislead in what I was actually purchasing..Like I said They told me I was paying for software..Not a "Service" and from what I do understand..Most of the hard work of skinning is done freely by people who just like to do it....So The Service was not properly explained to me before purchase..You cant sell a Mercedes Benz With a Pinto motor and still say its a Mercedes

You're not using the Component Manager correctly. In offline situations, with no access to the internet, it depends on your serial number being properly entered. You also have to use the backup/restore features to transfer the .cab and .cmi files to the computer and then install them there.

If WindowBlinds is running fine and then "something" happens and it stops working and only a reinstall makes it works again, your PC has some major issues going on that have nothing to do with WB.

Drop: Email sales@stardock.com, ask for refund, tell them Brad sent you and said to give you a full refund.
Its not the refund...I dont want a refund..I just feel that WB doesnt seem very stable..It is the only part that doesnt work that well..I do enjoy CurserXP and I also really enjoy Icon Packeger...I just feel i was Very Misinformed by Sales on exactly what I was paying for...I was lead to belive that I was getting software not a service as karma girl stated...Also once I quit working where I do I lose my ability to DL stuff..Since the Only OD manager I got registered belongs to my employer...So thank you frogboy...Its not the price it is just very frustrating trying to do updates and installs when I have to go from one computer to the next. Also I tried to install that new 4.00B and it gives me trouble to...Anyways....I think you should make sure sales Learns how to state exactally what it is you are getting...And I will probably get the CD rom later this week to see if it really helps..I was informed that The Software is actually on the CD Rom and not the Service......
