Yes, at my PC with the issue I have a Nvidia graphics card too. But I don't use Malwarebytes or Kaspersky but only Windows Defender.

I also have the

Nvidia graphics card

Malwarebytes

Windows Defender

DisplayFusion

On my computer with the rundll issue I have no DisplayFusion but coincidentally I have DisplayFusion on my second computer and there is Fences installed too and it works without the rundll issue.

OK, lets focus on Win10 machines: Pro & Home plus running Nvidia graphics for now.

Anyone with these combos having the rundll32 'badge' problem?

I used to have an Nvidia graphics card, but changed it for an AMD sometime last year.

I didn't have any issues with fences while having Nvidia. Although I went through each service and task scheduled after changing the graphics card and made sure that Nvidia was removed, there is still the probability that Nvidia might have altered some registries on its way out..

I also just done a windows repair install to hopefully account for the above, but rundll32 still had the shield on; nothing seems to have improved with the newest windows update.

Windows 10 Pro (1909 - 18363.657) here btw

hmmm I cant even find any reference to this pesky dll morphing into a dll with a run as admin badge anywhere on the forums.

I'm on:

Win10 pro
1909
18363.720

I'll keep digging though... If I find anything, I'll post it here.

There seem to be many other people getting rundll32 UAC prompts for random things.

Aside from Fences, I also get UAC prompts when trying to 'Eject USB' (right click on the portable drive and eject), or when trying to flash an image using balenaEtcher, or formatting an external microSD with SD Card Formatter.

I followed the steps outlined here + a Windows repair install as well, yet none of it helped with the UAC prompts.

When I get a few mins I'll create a win10  x64 VM to see if I can replicate this rundll32 issue...

I'll report back if I find anything...

Interesting.  Could you provide step-by-step instructions?

I realized that I had the same problem with rundll32.exe and the yellow-blue shield in the System32 folder so I decided to run antivirus on it and i found a virus called VB or something like that, so I removed it when scan is finished, and its fixed immediatly, that's it

You have to uninstall all antivirus but Windows security, active it, and do scan windows folder because it's a windows OS problem or tell me all about your case, i'm wanna try to help you

Here step by step instruccions:

1) open the sound configuration(per example or can be subconfigs like mouse, keyboard, etc) and if appears Uac prompt, close it and see if subcnfig its opens, if not, go next step

2)go to C:\Windows\System32 path and search rundll32.exe and if appears the yellow-blue shield, go to proprerties and untick run as admin (if it's ticked)

3)go back to C\Windows and in the System32 folder do right click and do a scan with Windows Security, (you have to activate it, you must uninstall other antivirus for that) and quit all viruses that you find, in my case it solves my problem

4)if that doesn't works, go back to C:\ and do scan on Windows folder because its a Windows problem

Didn't work for me too.

I think in most cases the rundll32.exe issue (yellow-blue shield & UAC prompt) is not caused by a virus.

Then, you can do this:

1. Open Windows security panel

2. Go to treats protection path (shield icon)

3. Go down until treats settings, and click on manage settings

4. Go down until manage folders access, then click on it

5. If shows disabled, then, enable it

6. Restart

7. Find if it's fixed

8. After that, you can disable it if you want because there's no problem anymore (i disabled it too and all work fine)

Try to do a antivirus scan with windows security in the system32 (if doesnt works try it with syswow64 too) folder and then do the last steps i wrote here but restart, and then, disable the manage folder access option and find if it fixes, wait to scan finishes, it's the way I did exactly, i dont know what else i can do

Hi Lex, thank you for your hints. But I already scanned the whole windows folder before.
I really believe that the cause of the problem with rundll32 in my computer is different from yours.
So the solution that helped you will not help in my case.
But thanks again for your attempt.

Try this:

1. Open this path: C\Windows

2. Find for System32 folder and do right click on it

3. Click on Examinate Microsoft Defender option

4. Ignore the scanning and click on shield icon then go down to ransomware protection

5. Then enable manage folder access option, (and click yes if appears a security popup)

6. That's it

If that doesn't works do this: Open each option (there's 3 option: block's history, protected folders, and allow app to folder access) and do screenshot and upload to this thread to see what happen, meanwhile, you can use malwarebytes or adwcleaner

Sorry for my bad english

Hello

I have exactly the same issue here.

I am trying Object Desktop (for Groupy and Fence) and Fence gives me this annoying rundll32 startup UAC twice.

I checked every proposed solution in this thread and none helped.
@Lex solutions are (IMHO) non-sense.  Spectially because rundll32.exe does not have a Compatibility tab,

The issue might be the UAC badge in the rundll32, but I have not found anyway to remove it, if it is really a bug.

I do have Nvidia drivers, kaspersky (which I remove to try the Microsoft Defender solution).

It is important to notice that Fence is the only application triggering this issue.

Hello!

Has anyone figured out a fix for this issue?

I am also getting the double rundll32 pop up every time I start my computer.

It seems to be specifically fences doing it and rundll32 does not have a compatibility tab to remove the admin shield with.

There were no viruses and fences does not have admin on.

I am unsure where to go from here and I can't find a single thread anywhere with a fix.

Hello,

I have forwarded your report to the Stardock support team for their review and recommendations.

Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates.

We really do appreciate your feedback, thanks.

Hello again!

Sadly creating a new account doesn't help because the pop-ups still happen when signing in to the new account.

For some reason fences when installed makes rundll32 open as an admin and there is no way to change it.

Has anyone had any luck on this issue yet?
