Start 10 and Dock cause Chrome to crash

Testing new Gmail Material Design Gmail

When Dock and Start 10 are installed, Google Chrome will randomly crash with a warning from Google that these two programs may cause Chrome not to function and should be uninstalled. In my case, I have encountered this problem after using the new Gmail client.

I suspect this may well not be an issue on our end and you would need to contact Google regarding this defect in their software as they seem to have added new code which assigns blame to software after a crash.  The odds of two products both causing the crash seems somewhat unlikely though...

Google chrome stores crash information here : %HOMEPATH%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Crashpad\reports

If you are able to send us the dmp files from the crash we can investigate further and if required go yell at Google or fix it if it really is us.

Thank you. I will look at that info.

No reports were in the folder for Google Chrome.

You may need to disable automatic crash reporting to Google in order for it to keep the crash reports unfortunately.

It seems to have stopped after I disabled the Windows Defender folder protection. I will keep experimenting until either I figure out the exact cause or I assume that Chrome has been fixed. I will post what I find.

This issue is persisting. Chrome warns 'consistently' about Start10 being incompatible.

Is Start10 injecting into Chrome processes? If so, why?

That warning has been documented elsewhere. The warning arises when programs modify the kernel. Virus protection, camera, Acronis Backup, and yes Stardock. I think that you might want to do that with Stardock products because they change the way the kernel displays groupings on the desktop..

I have no problem with Chrome crashing,  I use Beta for Chrome and Canary with no crashing. No problems with Firefox or Edge.

The problem goes away when you reinstall the OS! Backup your data, licenses, and other product codes saved.Yes, it will take about 1/2 ro 1 day to do this. I have had to do it twice for multiple computers. If your backup is thorough, the process is simple in Windows 10. You will be surprised. Your computer will run quicker and things will work better. I am a 78 year old hobbyist and the process is fairly straightforward. Microsoft's assistance in that process is baked into Windows. They even assist you in your backup strategy using the Settings Menu.

We use various products from Stardock as do most of my clients. I have reinstalled for a few of them and no one is unhappy after facing their own fright in doing it. Microsoft will either fix their code or developers will adjust their coding to suit Microsoft.

In this complex industry a change on one product impacts the function of many others.

I have the same issue, latest versions of Google Chrome, all Stardock's plugins. Google Chrome crashes and asks to uninstall DeskScapes 8 (ver 8.51). I did uninstall and rebooted the system. Google Chrome still crashes, but this time it does not blame Stardock. DeskScapes 8 was reinstalled.

You can't be serious with this reply. I'm well aware of the process to do a reset on Win10. That's not the issue here really. It's the fact that Chrome is cracking down on processes that tamper with the kernal or it's API. Developers have to be more careful now, it's not really a Win10 problem as much as it is the tricks developers are using that can cause issues. Many AV's for example inject into browser processes, or pre-load APPINIT DLL's which also cause issues. Rarely will a reset on Windows 10 fix the issue because it's not really a Win10 corruption issue. One of the triggers of this issue is the fact that Chrome parses EV logs and issues the warning over ANY application that crashed at the time Chrome crashed, then issues the warning.

Win10 resets don't take a day, they take 15 minutes as long as you don't have a potato computer and some m.2 drives. I reset my computer almost monthly and use scripts group policy pushes to reinstall and setup everything.

This was hideous advice you are giving.

With the update to 1809, most of my clients experienced problems. Start10 does not work and Fences lost many icons or does not work. This is unsatisfactory. Please fix.
