Let's just say that I don't like it when she deletes posts #12 and #13 and replaces them with "goodnight" and "grr". The "corrections" of (let's call it) less polite remarks. That is very naughty.

I don't want to stir anything up either but Shmoopy is right. She got cheated out of being on the front page in the Top Downloads section. I noticed it before she posted this thread. It also happened to me the other day.

All she is saying is fair is fair and I agree 100% with her.

If her skin had more downloads why is Defcon placed above her?

Please none of the Blah...Blah...Blah responses.

Just a simple answer would be nice

No on was cheated out of anyting.  The formula for Top Downloads has changed as previously mentioned.

We have been over and over the new system of download counts and how top authors are calculated.  Please read those posts again.

Defcon received 25 more counted votes than Shmoopy did.  There is no conspiracy involved.

Remember the whole top author/skin discussions we've been having for the past month? They're not biased against anyone, they are designed to provide a more fair system as a whole. If you click on the top skins area and go to the rankings page, you'll find your skin ranked by the raw downloads.

But on the home page, it's not purely raw downloads, it's based on downloads by users with a specific criteria. Odds are in your case it was very close. But the system prevents tampering (inadvertent or intentional).

I am perfectly clear on the Top Author Rating.

We are not talking about TOP AUTHORS.

We are refering to TOP DOWNLOADS.

Please, Please...just a simple answer as to why "Lullaby", which received more downloads than "Defcon", was not placed in the top downloads section rather that "Defcon"?

Since the new rating sytem came in, my name hasn't even been in the top authors list, whereas before I was near the top for a long time. My latest WB skin didn't even get my name in the top authors, never mind in the top downloads. But I am not complaining about it, I believe the new system is fairer to all. Please make sure you understand how the system works before screaming about how you are being cheated out of a place near the top.

Incidentally, I still get around 2000 downloads per day, but can't get 200 WinCustomize downloads to put me on the board. That's just the way it is now. Fairer.

Zodiaq~,  Top Authors are based on downloads.  So, obviously, the downloads have to be counted on the new system.

Boxxi, I respect your work and appreciate your response but unfortunately Shmoopy started this thread in regards to Top Downloads.

I must have been absent the day the Top Downloads system was discussed, I'm completely clear about the top authors. I'd appreciate it if someone would make it clear to me, I hate being in the dark about all this! Maybe the stats that all this is being based on should be available as well as the raw stats so there won't be any hard feelings by anyone.

all WinCustomize downloads per author added together = top author ranking

I see now...somehow I thought they were different...smacking myself up side of the head, DUH! Even so, it does seem like those stats should be available so that no one will misunderstand. Something that just crossed my mind, is that if these are based on WC downloads just where are all the other downloads coming from?

O.K...... to save me coming round to your house and pointing at the monitor, I will explain this real careful.......... click on the words "Top Downloads" on the right side of this page, when the new page loads, scroll down to where it says "Top WindowBlinds skins". On the far right are the figures we use to calculate the top downloads. It says "WC Downloads yesterday", these are the figures that determine where the skin will be placed in the top downloads section. Then note that Defcon received more downloads than Lullaby, thereby placing it above lullaby in the Top Downloads section.

I'm sorry, but I can't explain it any clearer than that without being in the room with you.

That was as simple as it can be stated.  I guess you just needed BoXXi's visual to be able to understand, I don't know....

I indeed fully understand the top downloads and how it works what befuddles me and maybe other is... why are so many downloads from WC servers coming from other sources? would this not indicate that there is some serious bandwidth theft going on? deep linking directly to downloads ( zip archives etc. )

psst!  BoXXi.....*they* can't see those stats   Those are only listed in the Admin stuff.....  I had to log off to realize that myself....

Static, they come from all over the place (links to the site).  We know where they are coming from, we just don't count them in the downloads. 

O.K. I apologise to one and all....I have just been informed that only we admins can see those figures that decide the top authors. I didn't realise you guys couldn't see them. I understand the confusion now.
