Notification about posting on a forum thread. What?

So I received email today saying.

"Hi DaveBax

There has been recent activity to the forum posts you have subscribed to on our website. Here are some posts with new activity" There are also links on the email.

Is this something new?"

What does this mean every time I post a reply too any thread I'm going to receive email from Stardock? I'm very active on the forums and don't need regular emails telling me I posted.

Jazian, I'm aware one can un-scribe from all email. I see one option " subscribe" or "un-subscribe" see no option to just un-subscribe from a specific type of email.

I have no problem with receiving email from Stardock for promotions, new programs, etc.

I'm very active on the forums  with helping and general comments. So back to my question is this something new a notification just because one made a forum reply?

Dave,

I realize you concern . and Hilite it to CM support team about it. I wonder if there is an option to disable all email notification from all subscriptions in one go.

All threads now have "Subscribe to this post" and "Email me when someone replies" check boxes at the bottom left of the posting area Dave. Just un-check them both.

Ok Tom, thanks. I thought that was always there and did nothing.

Saying that I have commented on other threads during this same time frame and only received email from one post. Not going to un-check from this post and see if I receive email.

Maybe that is also what basi was telling me to uncheck

It's not new, but unfortunately has been broken for quite some time.  We just applied some fixes to that feature to get it up and going again.

There are rules in place that will try to keep the emails to a minimum so you do not get spammed for every post and reply.

And as mentioned above, you can uncheck the boxes to subscribe/email when creating a post or reply.  And you can go to the Subscriptions Page to unsubscribe from selected posts.

T-Man thank you. I know it has been there forever.

Some nice work being done on the website. Think I will go to the one thread now and un-check it. WHY in case4 you can address this issue. I have no made any additional post to it and received additional mail just like the first one for the same thread. No problem I will just un-check it.

I'm home and by my computer all day and into the the night so I get to see everything and may post more than others.

Thanks again to all the replies and especially to T-Man for the full explanation.

HELP Please now T-Man.

I have unchecked both boxes. "subscribe to this post" and "Email me when someone replies."

Receiving email exactly every 5 minutes for over 2 hours now. I can't live like this.

NOTE: As soon as I close the thread and open it again the boxes are checked. They will not stay un-checked.

Unfortunately doing that does not work ID, never has for me. I cleared my cache, all that stuff, no effect. The boxes remain checked all the time.

It appears it has stopped for now before ID even replied. T-Man has replied back to me through PM and said he is working and looking into it. Maybe he has fixed it and replies that back to the Thread.

The first thing I did was un-check the 2 lower boxes and also the My subscriptions. Hopefully all fixed

I stopped the process while I was debugging it.  I found the issue and corrected.

System is up and running again and, fingers crossed, everything is happy now.

There still is an inherit logic error with the display of the checkboxes.  By Default they are always on.  They are only saved when you subscribe.  As soon as you uncheck the "Subcribe to this Post" it unsubscribes your information removing it from the database so it goes back to showing the defaults after the reply box. I will have to look into this further next week.

The Subscriptions Page will show the forum posts you are subscribed to along with if you are receiving email updates to the post.

T-Man I just received email again. I unsubscribed everywhere I can. Hope this stops

Seems I received the email soon after you posted on the thread

You are still subscribed to this thread.  Or keep re-subscribing every time you reply.  Until I fix the UI, you would need to uncheck the "Email me when someone replies" box when ever you reply.

Under Account -> Options you probably have the option to "Auto subscribe" turned off.  It's default setting is checked on.  So that will change your defaults for posts you are not subscribed to.

"Email me when someone replies"  doesn't work at all for me.  I never get emails.

Update - it started working again.
