How to remove old version

Win10 upgrade

Win 10 update version 1709 tells me that it will not install until I remove Windowblinds.  WB isn't registered on my PC as an active program, so I am stumped as to how I should accomplish that.  I think that the last time I used WB was probably 3-4 years ago under Win 7, so I do not know what the update is looking at since it was never installed under Win 10.  (I have have done search and deleted so really old XP  [!] backup files referring to WB, and run CCleaner registry cleaner, all with no success.)

Looked like the ideal solution.  I have now run the purge batch file 5 times, but I still get the same response that I must uninstall WindowBlinds to proceed with Win 10 update 1709.

'Windows could not uninstall, need to remove yourself.' Then 3 lines

  • WindowBlinds
  • WindowBlinds
  • WindowBlinds

I believe this is a bug in the Microsoft installer.

For reasons best known to Microsoft, they have opted to block install if any file called WindowBlinds*.exe is located ANYWHERE on your system.  Which would be the installer.  I think this is not the case for the latest version but is for old ones.

This isn't checking for installed apps, you could literally have a copy of WB 6.0 from a decade ago and if it is in your g:\old pc stuff\downloads\ folder it would still count it!

It is true those very old versions of WB cannot be used on Windows 10, but they are hardly blocking an upgrade.
