Click sound is painful to hear. Literally.

This was brought up over a year ago, before release, hasn't been addressed

I'm not the only one who thinks this, it appears. I just bought the gold pack from Steam and have started on the tutorials. I've played quite a few 4x games, including GC2 and this is the first time where I've complained about a sound effect. I learned from the linked forum post that all of the SFX are bundled now, unlike in GC2 where they are all in separate .wav files. I'd really rather not disable SFX entirely, but there's no way (seemingly) to mod this to a different sound or to reduce the volume of just the clicks. I'm finding it annoying to the point of disruption (and posting here).

I realize that this sound isn't bother some for some people; please don't chime in and say "it's not a problem, I've logged 200 hours!". Incidentally, I wear headphones (HyperX Cloud II). That might exacerbate it.

Any suggestions? Stardock, Brad, would this be something you could fix easily? Even separating just the click sounds out from the packaged SFX so they could be swapped out for any other sound would be awesome. As an alternative, the ability to reduce the volume of just UI sounds would be brilliant (though I suspect that would be more work). Thanks!

Go into options and only lower the SFX.

Unfortunately it will do it to all SFX not just a few selected files.

Looks like this was my error - I thought there was only a slider for SFX, but there's one for UI as well. Fixed! I dropped that down to about 30% (just enough to hear I've clicked) and it's not nearly as annoying and painful.

Still, I'd recommend that Stardock looks into replacing that sound with a better sound effect seeing as how often you have to click buttons.

I dunno, I find the the click sound to be really satisfying.

I only put my ear speakers on when i am ready to watch an interesting battle, otherwise, no.

But it is funny you should mention 'clicking' as being annoying..... my elderly father likes to play solitaire on his tablet. He has a strange habit of hammering the screen with his fingernail, and it is exceedingly annoying. Often i will ask him "would you like a hammer with that?"

Turning down the UI volume fixed the annoyance, thanks for pointing to that option.

I think the problem about the click sound is, that it feels like it's so much louder than the rest of the UI sound effects.

Or maybe because it is repeated over and over if the user is scrolling the list.

I obviously can not check if it is the same annoying sound as in the beta, but the issue was observed in a 2014 alpha/beta feedback posting already in MaxWar's list of annoyances
