Convert ship (model) to different size?

Hey all, was wondering, there are some great ships out there though often I want them as a different size than the mod/ship. Is there a way to convert a ship to a different size.

I have tried selecting pc's to export but unless the ship is designed properly it usually fails...

Would be nice.

Nope.

You might be able to use a ship model as a part model though, if you're not opposed to quite a bit of tinkering.

Would be nice, but it doesn't exist. Paul mentioned we might get this one day in a live stream in a galaxy far away and a long time ago.

What do you mean by this? Size as in the Hull size? This is possible with xml editing.

Thanks all,

yes Horemovore, I was/am looking to mainly adjust the hull. For example all my scanning ships I like to look the same (or similar) etc.

Guess I will have to learn how to edit ships in the XML. :)

Question? Where is the ship XML located? Directory, not seeing it under the designs folder?

Horemvore, I looked at the guide which talks about new ship styles and such, but I am asking if I download a ship from Steam, where is the XML that i need to modify? or does it add it to the ShipBlueprintDefs.xml?

Thanks

You have to make the xml's(Append xml's). The game does not create xml's for you.

The vanilla ones are:

  1. FactionShipStyleSetDefs.xml
  2. ShipClassDefs.xml

Gauntlet has an excellent guide on YouTube for creating your own shipsets.

Sorry, I guess I am not asking clearly.

There is a ship that I download from Steam workshop that I would love to move from one hull size (cargo) to another hull size(medium). Is there a way to do that? I don't believe so because there is no XML, or does downloading a ship from Steam workshop create an "append" xml file?

Or would I have to define my own XML which would override the template I download?

You download a design form the workshop, it is saved as a design which you can use in game or use to create a ship style(if you have lots of designs). To change a designs hull size, you have to either create a shipstyle(out side of the game modding) and list the design you downloaded as a medium hull(The game will still think its a cargo hull due to the design). You then boot the game up, start a game, use the unlock command, find your ship pr ships, save it as a template, then re edit your shipstyle to point at this new template which is now saved as a medium hull or what hull type you chose in your ship style.

You have to create the XML's to do this. All of them. OR, edit existing xml's of which I listed above.

Yeah, Basically you have to have custom ship style.

I start out small - copy another ship style, then modify one ship at a time.

So "yeah, it doesn't work" or "yeah, it does work"?

I tried it with a couple ships, but couldn't get it to work.  But don't really have any experience with hard core use of the ship designer.

Ok, now I'm not sure... I tried it again myself, but can't get it to work. I was pretty sure I have in the past, but not working now (or at least I can't seem to repeat it). Though going to work on it a bit more.
