Am no longer able to move icons from one desktop to the next

The first few went smoothly.  I dragged them to the edge of the desktop as directed and puff! there they were on my "new" desktop.  All of sudden, the icons are "jumping" back to the old screen and the screen switches to the new desktop - sans the icons.

I really want this to work.  I haven't seen any other posts on this topic.

Thanks in advance for reading this and any input is much appreciated!

Guessing Windows 10?

Seems to me to be connected to Windows 10's "task view", sorta like virtual desktops.

Quoting Techron : This may sound like it's 'too obvious' to be the issue, but I've seen it several times...
In the display control panel, where it shows monitors "1" and "2"; first click on the "Identify" button to verify which monitor it which.  Then, make sure that the right/left position of the real monitors matches the right/left position of what is being displayed in the control panel.  If it doesn't, grab one of the monitor symbols in the control panel and move it to the other side.

On windows10 if you create a virtual desktop, it will then hold all existing desktop icons from desk1 deleteing them will delete them on your primary desktop aswell so why bother moving them ?
Or do you have a dual monitor setup?
