Long time dl for us folk the only have 56k. It is tempting. By the what, I've got 7.04. How'd they skip to 8? Ah, me. OC is out of the loop again.

I just bought 7.04 not that long ago, so I'm not terribly thrilled by the beta release of 8....

mr xaltec

I downloaded psp 8 beta, but only last night. Tried it out for a short time and found that it has some interesting new features, but in the short time I used it I was not overly impressed. I'll need to play with it a bit more though before I really decide.

I had to download it twice, at 26.4.... (file was corrupt the first time ) I haven't had a chance to dive in, but I find the new interface interesting, and much cleaner, than previous versions.
I found this bit of info, in the release notes....
"Once you reach the point where you are pretty set in your preferences, make a point to record a script (see Scripting) of your setting the preferences the next time you have to reinstall the application. Now that we have scripts, there is no reason not to put them to work"
.... I think that is awesome!
I think I'm gonna love v8....

Mr. Xaltec, so far so good. I d/l it yesterday afternoon on my pathetic 56k but I was busy so it wasn't a bother (say that ten times fast).

One thing I noticed was that 8.0 is vastly more organized and as Koasati mentioned...a much cleaner interface. The customizable taskbars (which is something I've always LOVED about PSP, and you can't do in Painter 7 or Photoshop 7) is even MORE customizable now! Yeah! WOO HOO!

Does anyone use the workspace save option? This lets you customize PSP toolbars and save your settings so if you want to work with a lot of mask features and have tons of shortcuts to those specific tools on your toolbar you can save and then load your workspace for just that purpose etc. etc. Also, a great teaching tool because you can have your 'student' load YOUR specific workspace so you are both looking at the same toolbar setup and can guide someone to a toolbar or shortcut much easier.

I've yet to further delve into the other improvements. It did take me a bit of time just to familiarize myself with things but it's still very much PAINTSHOP and NOT Photoshop! My biggest curiosity will be to see if it supports more than the 9 layer limit that 7.04 had. I will most certainly buy 8.0 if it's a major improvement...after all PSP is an amazing program for the money and has been good to me since 6.0 so I don't mind supporting a company that has done such great work!

Well, that was my two cents so far.

Off to make coffee!

Have a good day Mr. X!

9 layer limit? I've never hit a limit.

Koasati, if you go over 9 layers in 7.04 it will combine the last two active layers into one...so that you're always working with only 9 (I found this out by accident much to my chagrin when I lost an important layer). THAT was NOT cool!

Try it and you'll see what I mean.

Other than that I love PSP...

Yeah, Weaksid, I don't think it does either. From what BoXXi once told me there are not layer limits in Photoshop...

But I'm more comfortable with PSP and the customizable toolbars so I've learned to work around that limit by saving certain layers as separate pieces if need be. Which is why I am curious if PSP 8.0 Beta has limitless layer capabilities now. That should be interesting and definitely an improvement. Unfortunately I'm on my laptop and don't have it installed on this puppy yet...

/me must get on the ball and Beta test!

/me hopes PSP 8.0 is mo Beta...er Betta!

/me needs coffee and is blabbing incessantly now.

OMG

I just learned something HUGE. *Smacking herself*

I've never used the actual 'layer' palette toolbar much in PSP...but rather only clicked on the 'layers' thingy which would only show 9 layers at once. So, I just activated the layer palette toolbar to show up and sure enough...all of the layers are there. Oh the headaches this coulda saved me!

Thanks Koasati!

/me is now even MORE impressed with PSP. LMAO!

I hear Bugs Bunny whispering..."Whatta maroon!"

Shut up Bugs...

A newly created Paint Shop Pro image consists of one raster layer, the background layer. This is analogous to the canvas of a painting; every image must have at least one layer. Paint Shop Pro supports up to 100 layers per image. The actual number of layers you can create may be further limited by the amount of memory in your computer.

That's from the 7.04 help file..... it may not be limitless, but close enough for me...

I've dl'd the trial version and have started playing with it. Took me awhile to find some of my favorite tools and such. First impression is favorable. I really like the layer groups and the warp screen thingy. I could probably get used to it after awhile.

That's great

And to think all this time I was stuck using 9 layers because I wasn't using the layers palette toolbar.

*sigh*

WOW! 100? COOLLLLLLLL!

/me is thinking of all the time this will save her now.

The things I coulda done...the hassles I coulda saved myself...with these PSP powers...I shall rule the...ahhhhhh never mind. I'm gonna drink my coffee.

It has a *huge* footprint at load, but if you minimize and then restore it goes down to something more reasonable.

Also just discovered that loading a workspace will put the main PSP window to whatever location it was in when you saved the workspace.
