It's not a good idea to use that toilet roll to keep folded power cables neat...if the cables are in use and are 'folded' they pose a fire hazard due to overheating...and the roll is cardboard as well....

Sounds like something JavaBrain would have said in the old days.

tablet form denture cleaners , (like efferdent)when dropped in your porcelain toilet will get rid of hard water "rings" and rust stains.

They also work great on old tupperware to get stains out and remove the buildup of oil residue(you know those really old bowls that have a nasty sticky feeling?)

Biz bleach when mixed with equal parts white vinegar and as warm water as your colors can stand will take out sports stains,(like grass, mud etc.) formula stains (including soy based),and babyfood stains(like carrots,squash etc.)

teething gums are soothed with unopened icepops(you know the kind that you buy unfrozen sealed in plastic like "otter pops")and until the teeth pop through, you can just keep washing the outside and refreezing them.

rubbing alcohol works to keep your glasses from fogging up when you come inside from cold weather.

white toothpaste works well when polishing silver. and an old toothbrush makes a perfect scrub brush for corners and small items.(just label it so no one ever uses it again !)

a dab of colored toothpaste applied to the hanger on the back of a picture will help to mark where you should place the nail on the wall. Just place the picture where you want it and press lightly against the wall.(once the nail is in place, wipe away the toothpaste.)

if you have loose batteries in a drawer, put tape over the ends to prevent them from rubbing the positive/negative against each other or other metal objects. this can prolong the life of the battery.

*NOTE* "until the teeth pop through....".. meaning you can refreeze the icepop!... once the kids teeth surface, they tend to puncture the icepop. Thankfully the icepop is edible so no calls to poison control!

bar soap, when rubbed on a sewing needle helps it to slide through fabric easier.
bar soap also helps ease a zipper up or down on the teeth of a metal zipper

Kid got gum in hair? peanut butter helps to loosen it grip.

have an old shirt that won't make it to salvation army? save the buttons off it for emergency repairs of other clothing.

Can't sew? and can't afford new drapes? buy two nice flat sheets , run a curtain rod through the wide space at the top. Tie off with a grossgrain ribbon.

cat like to stretch on the arms of your couch? put double sided tape there. cats hate the feeling and will stop.

Bitter apple spray when applied to any surface will keep puppies from chewing there.

cloves of garlic strewn about the garden will discourage cats from using it as a litter pan

when planting roses or acid loving plants, put a piece of dead fish under the root ball.(preferably a piece with bones.)

when washing baby socks and small items of clothing, put them in a mesh bag (like the kind you get oranges in) it'll keep them from geting caught in the drain tube.

If you have skunks hanging out under your deck, throw some mothballs under there, they'll leave and never return. (must be napthalene type)

To keep Deer out of your garden you can make a cheap fence by putting a couple strands of string around the garden on poles. The deer will think it's a complete fence.

Does anyone know why Outlook Express 6.0 would make an computer with XP SP1 installed freeze up every so often?
Perhaps too many saved emails bloating the program?

Do you have Messenger blocked? The first time I took off Messenger it was not a good way to do it and it really slowed Outlook Express down and it locked up a lot. Other then that I have not had any problems with it. Oh and yes I have the XP SP1.

What I did to fix it was back track on the way I got rid of the Messenger.
This is then the way I got rid of it again.

Bring up Outlook Express and select Options from the Tools menu. Locate and un-check the box that reads "Enable instant messaging..."

Then run the following command to uninstall Messenger:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

We'll certainly give it a whirl...

I keep Edit Pad (a free program similer to NotePad, but with more capabilities) "Pinned" to my start menu (right click on any program that you've just used in XP and select "Pin to Start Menu") That way whenever I run across a good tip no matter where I'm surfing, I can just right click the "tip" or "dialog", drag across it to highlight it, right click again to "copy" it, hit the start button to bring up edit pad, click on it and then paste the tip in. You can leave it running in the back ground or save it as a text file and name it for whatever the tip does.
It sounds like a lot of things to do but in reality, it only takes an instant. Anyone that tries it will soon see how handy this is.
BTW it will work with graphics also.

My wife's pst file causes her p4 T30 thinkpad with 512 megs of ram take somewhere around 7 - 10 minutes to load outlook and it pretty much stops you from doing anything else, the pst file is 1.4 gig, I keep telling her to clean the dang thing up or move stuff over to the database and link it so it doesn't have to load constantly. She's got this thing about having past and present emails ready at hand...

so, yeah the size of your pst can very well do that....
