NortonAntivirus Problem

I just bought the 2003 Norton System Works CD and installed onto my computer. When I try to do a full scan of my computer, it says "Norton AntiVirus was unable to scan your computer for infections because some Norton AntiVirus components are missing." I then ran LiveUpdate which didnt fix the problem.

The next thing I tryed is reading and following the steps to make all the necessary .exe files non-compatable. That still didnt fix the problem. Can anybody help me?

Quick search on Symantec's website turned up this:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/8d071816eedd7cac88256c0e005a96e5/61cdd3ab50eb315788256c0c0065bf82?OpenDocument&sone=nav_2003_tasks.html&stg=3&prod=Norton%20AntiVirus&ver=2003%20for%20Windows%202000/Me/98/XP&base=http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/nav/&next=nav_2003_contact_tscs_solve.html&src=sg&pcode=nav&svy=

One hell of a URL - I hope it works.

S'all I was able to turn up - sorry.

-My- personal reply would be: Ditch 2003 and go pick up Systemworks 2002 - it works like a charm on my systems. ^_^

Ehh...I wish it were that simple. The thing is I'm 15, dont have a credit card, and there would be no way I could borrow my dad's credit card again. >

Ouch. Hrm, yeah, that poses a bit of a problem. If it was just recently purchased, I'd like to think Symantec would offer some telephone based support for free - you might want to look into that or email support?

If not - maybe tell him what's happening, and that you need to return that one for 2002. Dunno. :/

there is another stand alone holder over version of liveupdate on the Symantic site you download and need to run to fix that, well that was the fix for NAV/NIS 2002 Pro atleast.

Same issue though...

give me a minute and I will see if I can find the link on the site...

There was a issue with NAV and NIS 2002 when installing under XP.
It wouldn't complete correctly, and in order to fix it you had to download version 1.6 or 1.9 of Live-Update and run it with Norton apps turned off...

It would then download ecerything and update, putting things in the correct dir's and registering into the registry correctly also. So it would run on reboot and be fine after that.

Ah! I also remember seeing something about a AV2003 Cleaner to run in case of a not-fully-right installation. Gah. Too tired to find it again though.

Fortunately I use my notebook - and it's got a nice big LCD that's super-easy on the eyes.

Especially using ClearType. ^_^

Instructions on running live-update without loading any other norton applications.

you might have to uninstall NAV with the Rnav2003.exe removal utility to remove the current and previous versions of NAV:

@ burning eyes

If you go to START:PROGRAMS:NORTON SYSTEMWORK:NAV(NORTONANTIVIRUS) and load Live update from there with systemworks turned off and NAV also turned off, it should look your system over and see the problem and then download the updates and install them for you so it works.

Sometimes what happens is your subscriotion info gets wackybobo in transit also, and that could give you simular problems because it wouldn't register the updates it downloads durring the installation.

I would cut to the chase on the whole thing and do a claen uninstall of NAV only and then a clean install nothing else worked.

Well, I have another problem with NAV2003. I was using NAV2002, and I made the download for the free trial of 2003. After 15 days, I uninstalled the product, and try to install 2002 again, and guess what: I can't, because the program says an error: You have already installed a newer version of NAV (blah, blah...). I have to unistall the software manually (it's a pain in the !"$) and then reinstalled 2002 and made the update again. So, I will wait for NAV2004. >

sozinho, you have to run the cleanup utility from the norton web site to remove all remaining registry keys and such. then you can reinstall your older verision.

it isn't hard anymore, people got pissed with themand they wrote a couple of utilities to do it for you now
