Stability unacceptable for a launch title

Need I say more?

plz no fanatic fanboy defending, I don't care who you are, you can't tell me that the stability in this game is acceptable, we shouldn't be expected to have grade A rig's for this shit to work.

RIG

Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1100T processor 3.31 GHz

RAM: 8.00G

64 bit windows 7 os

What stability issues are you having? Have you followed our troubleshooting guide: https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/default_import/Knowledgebase/Article/View/496/161/general-galactic-civilizations-iii-troubleshooting

Have you contacted support?

What problem are you having specifically?

They're not mind readers, unless you explain what the problem is they can't help you.

Bahh very well. I'll play your little game...
Look the performance and stability issues in general are a huge problem. Once the map gets populated, the gameplay slows to a crawl, navigating the map, saving, taking a turn (though hopefully 1.3 fixes THAT issue) going into a shipyard, doing ANYTHING, my memory usage is pretty much always at 97% it all feels like molasses is in the processor. Also, I shouldn't have to deal with crashes when I'm trying to SAVE THE GAME.

I got annoyed when asked what the issues were because it implies that they are specific to me.... they are not as I have other friends who play this game. Kind of a dick move to shut down a support rep I'm aware... but so is releasing an unfinished game
I'm just expressing my ire by being irritating.

And stardock can only help me if they keep trying to optimize the game, so getting specific seemed pointless

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Version 1.03 was released yesterday, are you still seeing issues?

If you / they are still having problems with 1.03, and you are still unwilling to assist by creating a ticket, would they be?

How about more information. Are you playing on insane size maps? If yes, then that can explain why you're experiencing massive slow downs later on. I have 8 gigs of ram also and I never play galaxy sizes bigger than huge. Your memory usage at always 97% is the problem, you don't have enough memory, game is caching to your hard drive instead. I was planning on building a new computer later this year with 16 gigs of ram, but now I'm sure I will get 32 gigs of ram instead.

I personally think Stardock should disable/gray out the two biggest maps unless person has 16 gigs of ram at least.

I have a similar CPU AMD 1090T, and 5850 AMD graphics card.

Don't know what to tell you Samusco, but GCIII has never once crashed for me, all through the alpha and beta process, and now into release.  You're unlucky I guess.

1.02 runs phenomenally better than 1.0 did. I have 32GB of Ram though. What exactly are you seeing for a stability issue? Crashing or just hangups? Are you running on a HDD or SSD or RAMDisk? Ok never mind about the Ram Disk...

I ONLY play insane map size and I don't plan on ever going back to a smaller size. I shouldn't have to have 32 flowery gigs of ram to play the way I want to play. Don't give me this potato of "oh, well just play on smaller maps"
If they added those map sizes, it should be optimized for those map settings

This is exactly why I didn't want to respond to the support rep, your missing the god damn point by throwing a red herring with this "get better ram!" or, "Play smaller maps!"

Well flippity flip flap you, I don't have money for RAM and I don't WANT to play smaller maps. There's no excuse for this slinky.
Optimize your fantastic game, end of story.

To better serve my point, here are the "recommended" system requirements for the game posted on steam

  • Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor or Equivalent
  • Memory: 6 GB RAM
  • Graphics: 1 GB DirectX 10.1 Video Card
  • Hard Drive: 15 GB available space

Last post on this topic for me. Flogging a dead horse...

You are goddamn right. I wouldn't play on smaller maps either.

Now answer my question are you running on a HDD or an SSD? SSDs will have alot faster load time, should also prevent the lag you might see during turns. I still have some interface lag in 1.02 but much minor vs 1.0.

I didn't build it but was interested in helping you out if you want it. If I may ask if you are running 8 gig of ram.

I don't think more RAM is going to help you. I think your CPU is simply too far behind the curve to play it the way you want to play it. There are things you can do for cheap to fix that,..

Option A. Wait for code improvements, which will marginally fix your issues maybe.

Option B, If you have DDR3 RAM, then pony up the $50 for another 8 gigs and you can create a ram disk, install the game on it and play from the RAM, that is your best option to give good crutches to your CPU. It is what I do with my FX-8350.

Option C, move the game and or OS or both to a Sata III SSD from an HDD, preferably a 128GB-250GB one, which has good IOPS. Hard drives suck, in terms of speedy loads.

With 8 gigs of RAM I doubt the game is dumping a lot of data to your page file but it is possible. If you get more ram or have your page file on an SSD you shouldn't be having the issues which I conclude you are.

Also it has been suggested on here that the forum users would like more of a sugar coated response to stuff. So while I don't care about your direct approach, be wary of staying too much in your default frustrated yet genuinely understandably demeanor.

Cheers :jafo:

In addition to what I said earlier. You're basically saying you bought a game and you can't play on the game's very high/ultra settings. Your computer parts are all 5 years old, so are all my computer parts. I don't expect to buy a game and run it on very high/ultra with my specs. I personally think the recommended specs for games are for medium settings only.

Well, pardon me, but you sound like a self-entitled prick.  I see two stardock team members trying to help you and all you can do is toss profanities at them.  If playing the game on really high settings means so much to you, save some money and upgrade your system.  Or consider yourself lucky you live somewhere where you can play games on a computer, instead of homeless under a bridge somewhere.  Grow up!
