Mod Request (help with model conversion)

I'm working on a mod that I've always wanted to play. Since no-one else has really developed it, I figured I might give it a try. I'm pretty sure I can do a majority of the scripting but I'm having issues with the conversion of the models. If anyone is willing to convert them for me I can do the rest of the work.

From personal experience, I can tell you that you're not likely to get very far with recruiting mod team members unless you give a lot more info. At a minimum telling people what mod this might be. Giving something to back up that you can handle "scripting" the project as well as your dedication to the project also go a long ways.

Ok, well, I have next to 24 hours each day that I put into the mod when I'm not eating, sleeping or tending to my wife. I have over 1500 ship models from various games that can be or have been converted to a more user friendly format (mainly the models for ships and structures). I have almost a decade under my belt in scripting for Freelancer and Homeworld 2. I've had a few years work on indie game development teams, beta testing and conceptual design.

It's not the greatest resume in the world, but this is just for a little project that I always wanted to play in Sins. If others show interest in playing it as well, I can work towards making it a project on ModDB.

Um...

You missed the minimum.  Basically, if it's someone else's IP, say Star Trek, you list it, giving the context of what you're after(we've got a canon oriented Trek mod, and an Armada oriented mod, for instance) so fans of what you're using will know to be interested.  If it's your own, or a little known IP, you've got to paint your own picture for the crowd.  Pretty pictures of ships and back stories, that sort of thing.

I was working on the idea of a mixed universe. I have a story that works, though I'm not sure it's everyone's cup of tea. Right now I'm just thinking Sins, Homeworlds, and Freelancer. Before I go to crazy I need to know I can get the ships converted, otherwise this project isn't going to get very far. Ofcourse other IP's can be added if those working with me would like to see them added to that universe.

Well we have a Freelancer mod (Sins of the Series Sector) and Myfist0 from this forum was working on a Homeworld mod (I assume it is in development hell). I don't have either game so I can't tell you how to do it, but I'm pretty sure the Homeworld models at least were direct conversions. So that's probably possible.

That said, with even the best model converter, you still have to make 2 textures and add hard points manually for Sins. I'm a programmer not an artist myself, but over the years I've gotten good enough with image and model editors to take a base mesh and texture and do all the other required work to get a model into Sins.

Best of luck!

Thanks, looks like I'll need it. And yes, there's a Freelancer mod, but I haven't seen any movement in it for months and I don't know if I completely like the direction they're going with it from what I've seen. Hopefully it's just cause it's early pre-alpha. I haven't seen anything of the Homeworld mod but I'd love to play it if it was out right now. I'll have to take a look around. I really just wanted a nice multiverse mod that had all the various fleets to play around with together.

Well, regardless, I would still like to do this mod. If someone is willing to teach me how to set up the models to be converted, I could do it on my own. But I know that's asking a lot. I would like to be able to watch a youtube video on it but I haven't found very good videos covering that.

I think it's time I fix up my model converting video already. Lets go and do that...
