Poll: How many wb skins have you got on your hard drive?

I think we'd all agree, there's a lot of very talented skinners out there. It seems that every time I visit the new wb skins page, I see (and download) that special "skin to end all skins". Hence, over the years, I've accumulated literally hundreds of "best ever skins" on my hard drive, most of which I'm reluctant to "bin"!

Is there perhaps a theoretical maximum number one can store in the WindowBlinds folder? (ie without affecting performance)

And, just for interest, how many wb skins have you downloaded (and retained) on your hard drive?

Yesterday, I spend more than an hour pruning my Windowblinds skins and now I have 131.

Thanks for your input Mr Werewolf. Did you "prune" just as a regular part of routine "good housekeeping", or do you feel that the wb folder can, in fact, become over-full and start to affect performance?

I have... tons. Tons of them in my download folder (I was embarassed when I saw how much I downloaded from here!) but - not a single one of them is installed at the moment, at least not on my notebook.

On my notebook - I currently have 4. Yup - just 4 skins. The 3 that shipped with 3.9 and Vox.

Well, 5 if you count the one I've been telling myself to work on.

LoidBoid - "do you feel that the wb folder can, in fact, become over-full and start to affect performance?"

Yes, but that may just be psychological

kthxbye: you have good taste.

I had about 130 on my machine before I reinstalled Windows a month ago. Now I have around 25. I don't think the number of skins installed can slow down WindowBlinds, but it may make Display Properties open a little slower, since it has to build the list of skins to show on the Appearance tab.

Mr Werewolf - you may be right with the "psychological" aspect! In fact, many would say this word describes me perfectly: sometimes "psycho", sometimes "logical"!

BTW, greetings from "Down-Under" (Sydney, Australia) to all our U.S. friends and allies. Let's hope that our two countries get through the next few months safely. (A non-political wish)

Gee - now why would you say that, MikeB? ^_~

Now if only there was a version of colony with narrower window frames. *sighs* ^_^ heh.

Quick count here shows me having 40+

I routinely winnow down the number on my machine. I like to change up the skin at least once a day or more. I will remove the ones that I haven't used for some time unless I know I will use it again.

I am anal-rentive about the space used on my hard drive. I hate to see less the 1GB free. But as to the original question, can the WB folder get to full and affect performance? I think MikeB hit it on the head. The more you have the longer it takes for the Properties window, and Appearence tab to display.
Plus it is my anal-retentive belief that less space on the hard drive degrades performance. But that part is also probably psycho-logical.

I hope that I haven't confused or put anyone to sleep.

OK ... Time to come clean!
I'm running about 6 differnt blinds on assorted apps, have about 40 to choose from if I decide on a change and (red face!) have almost every wb skin I've ever downloaded over the past few years on CD ...... guess you could say I'm a back up freak or a hoarder!
Maybe both, it's genetic!

Never thought to count. Over the years have downloaded hundreds. Like to change em up! 368 on hard drive now. Guess I need to clean up but will never get rid of any. A lot are backed up on CDs. No wonder it takes forever to load display properties. Didn't know that. Another crease in the old grey matter.

Many thanks to you all for your feedback. At least I now feel less alone having all these wb downloads on file.

But now we've uncovered a new phenomenon: "Download Red-face Syndrome"!! Several of you have shown "embarrassment" at the quantity of skins you've downloaded. Strange, isn't it? After all the entire point is to either upload or download good lookin' skins! It's not as if it's "naughty" or anything.

....er, is it????

Well, hi WOM! Nice to be back. Working long hours and making April wedding plans have taken my eye "off the ball" for a while. Hope all's well with you - & please give my best to the very talented starone.

Sorry about the "lag" - it's taking me over 5 mins just to refresh this page! My ISP must have gone back to steam power!

a bunch, Jafo could tell you, dx themes, ob bars, zoomers, etc...
I have over 400 gigs of disk space in this system alone sooooo
no red face either
I actually only use four skins for ODNet products...
Then Hoverdesk, WinStep and Aston all of which I have also bought...

personally the two I stick with the most is VGreen, ONX and then Colony or
Coperdesk II, if I have anything loaded at all.

VGreen has been ported to ported to HD, WS and looking for it in Aston

Right now, I only have 20 on my hard drive, but I have many, many more on my backup drive.
I find that I only use two or three of my favorites most of the time.

Gosh..I am slow getting started, I only count 8 but with Win 95 I have had some problems with a few skins so I'm sticking with the ones that work. I'm more into WALLs, so many talented people.

Never more then 15/20, right now 12. I rarely change skins, usually just when I am working on a new one, but well, this happens quite offen. GO! GO!

Now, if you want to talk about iconpacks, then I have around 250

LoidBoid, "redface syndrome", like that description!
In my case I guess it is really a twinge of guilt when one reads posts from the trolls, I'd hate to consider myself a bandwidth hog.
In my defense (excuses.....excuses!) my backups go to the old days when we had several sites to choose from and WB was in the #1 stages of development.

I only have 5 at any one time installed. I keep about 20 or so install files in storage, though.
