Dislike being forced to choose an ideology.

So am biting the bullet and taking all 'Benevolence' choices when colonizing. What I do not like is being forced to take a trait. So we MUST fill out each layer before you can get to the next layer? That kinda sucks. For example, I dont want to spend my 50 points on a loaded colony ship, instead I want to sandbag em and get that 150 point jackpot for 'Breakthrough' in research points. But alas the game wont let me. You are FORCED to buy one.

People do not like to be forced to do something, in life or in game. Give us a choice to save up, unless there is a balance issue that I am not seeing. Granted we MUST unlock the first tier but after that I want to save up for 3rd or 4 tier perks and if I have earned them why not?

For me, it was having to choose the Independence tree when I was one more choice away from getting benevolence...and I wanted to go down that tree.

Was annoyed I had to commit at just that moment.

From what I know, you have to unlock a certain amount of perks per layer to unlock your the next, which is sorta crucial to have to work correctly. Yet I believe we should be able to save via not having to immediately spend points.

I'm a little worried about the direction ideology has gone. I miss early access to special buildings from alpha. Instead, we  get passive bonuses and ships we could build for a tiny fraction of the effort it takes to gain the ideology points. It doesn't feel meaningful, and the ability to pursue all 3 branches removes the rp value. I almost think it would be better to have the player choose an ideology from the beginning, then be rewarded for sticking to it or penalized for deviating from it. I don't have the solution, but ideology currently really adds very little to the game.

So ya think more bonuses AND unique abilities are needed? Me too.
