Automatic/Custom colors don't work for the Charms bar in Win 8.1

When the mouse is initially hovered over the charms that appear

With the update to Windows 8.1, Decor8 no longer colors the Charms bar and the Big Clock backgrounds when the mouse is hovered over the charms (and before clicking a charm). The background stays black.  The option to color the Charms bar in the Options panel is gone, too. I'm comparing the current behavior that I see to how Decor8 functioned under Windows 8.

Once a charm is clicked, the background and accents get colorized as expected: according to the settings in Decor8.

Stardock reps have said in this space that Microsoft's changes to 8.1 disabled things like Start Screen tile coloring and choosing the number of rows of tiles to show.  Is the same true of the Charms bar background during initial hover? Is there any way to get it back?

Cheers,

Jeff

I'm sorry they couldn't be bothered to answer you. I hate the ugly black charms bar and it's disappointing that an app I PAID for no longer does what it is supposed to do-and even more disappointing that Stardock doesn't seem to care.

I believe that yes this was an additional restriction added in Windows 8.1

Unfortunately we are limited by what Microsoft do and they opted to remove that ability from the OS in 8.1.

Hi Neil,

Maybe you could check with the Decor8 developers to improve the certainty of your answer?  If that's definitely the case then maybe a disclaimer can be put in the ads or docs for Decor8?  Or even make this info part of a FAQ?  It's not cool to be greeted with this surprise upon upgrading to Windows 8.1, and it's not cool that users have to dig for this info, nor that they have to wait 2 months for a (possible) answer.

Cheers,

Jeff
