User Generated Star Names List

To whom it may concern,

I enjoy a lot of space-based strategy games and there are a couple that I play, such as Distant Worlds and AI War, which allow users to input their own star names. By this I don't mean renaming a star in-game (or the star naming perk that Founders get) but generating new, personalized star names when the galaxy is set up.

Basically, users create a txt. file that is just a list of names they want for the stars in the game. They then save the file into the program's mod folder. When a new game is begun, the game uses that list for star names instead of whatever internal list it normally uses.

So I was wondering if something like this can be set up for GalCiv III?

Pretty Please.

Thank you.

hmm so the named star we purchased as funders  is kinda useless? If people dont like it they just put an other txt file in the modsfolder and poof no more 'nukar'-star

PS: *pokes kryo to send mails with keys*

It's commonly said that 90% of people never change the defaults in a program.

So don't worry, lots of people are going to see the founder star names. :)

It's also said that 78.4% of stats quoted on the net are also made up. ;)

See, that's totally false. Everyone knows it's 41.3%! ;)

Though the stat I cited is not one of those. Some research has shown it's actually more like 95%. In general, users don't change default settings.

One of the reasons Apple can be so successful with having fewer options is because of that very thing. A large segment of the user base doesn't change options and thus doesn't notice they're missing (or they find it easier to use without more confusing stuff piled in).

Not for everybody, of course. But good defaults are hugely important.

Screw defaults! Modding ftw!

Thanks, I'm glad it's in there.

On a similar note, will the Founder's star names be made available in a list so that we can incorporate them into our personal, modded star lists?
