Level 9 village

I conquered a town about 100 turn ago. It just keeps growing and is now a Level 9 village. Any idea why it has stayed a village?

I don't know how to post the image so if someone can help I have a screenshot.

What is the purpose of it being a village the whole game? Does it give something special that I haven't noticed?

It give a big bonus to your faction rating (as the increased sizes apparently affect the value) but none of the "city specialization" bonuses.

It's good for cranking out pioneers...

Try renaming the town to something else instead.

raze the bugged village.

No it's bugged has been bugged.   And it will forever be bugged, maybe.  At least it hasn't been fixed so far and it's been reported from several patches back ago.

Bugged?  I thought it was a feature.

If you get the Sacrifice spell you can convert the population to mana.

I recommend razing the bugged villages, they make faction power score go out of control and make the mightiest of the AI factions grovel to you because they look at score. You might as well as have a single bugged village but your score is 100k and they will worship your single level 1 militia like it's a walking god.

And it turns weakest of the ai faction into one of the strongest but it won't have an proper army to speak of to back it's score up but can start extracting tributes from everyone until it gets into a war and is swiftly conquered as the result due to it's nonexistent army.

Have you seen this work?

I have never seen the bug.

I rename all fortresses to "Fortress", all towns to "Town", and.. you get the idea.

That applies to all cities that I found and that I conquer.

I am willing to bet that some of those towns probably had the right name to have it get bugged and that renaming it fixed the problem before it became one.

That being said, I definitely can't speak for sure on that.

If my suggested fix (renaming it) fixes the problem and allows the city to level up, then signs would point to yes.

Is it just because of the name?

You can't overcome the bug by renaming the city, can you?

Considering I haven't ever experienced the bug and I always rename all cities, it is a distinct possibility.

Deorcnysse

You've taken Deorcnysse and renamed it and you could force it into a fortress or town?

I have played many hundreds of hours, I assume that I have conquered at least one Deorcnysse in that time.

I can't really say for sure, though, because I honestly haven't played that much FE since I became aware that a city named Deorcnysse was in any way special.  I wasn't looking specifically for it before and I haven't conquered one with that name since I started looking for it specifically.

- Edit - BTW, that is why I made the original suggestion to begin with.  So other people could have the idea to try it if they happen to be in a situation to do so.  The odds of me being in such a situation in the near future aren't that high.

Deorcnysse is bugged in the beginning of the game... if you can take the city when it is level 1, the city will function like a normal city. Problem is after the second turn it moves from level 1 to level 5 to 7 depending on the grain output on the spot. Thus, the city avoids catching the city ability requirement set in the core abilities at the prereq for level 1. Now, I've tried to create a work-around for this city, with partial success.

The main issue is that the term Village; there is a misunderstanding in the game context. A village in game means a non-specialized city (i.e., not a town, fortress or conclave). One still gets good benefits from the city itself, but the problem is that it never upgrades to a higher level.

It's pretty hard to miss as it's the one in the the quest area for the Darkling city and once you take it the wildlands will revert to normal lands.

If it is just the name what would happen if I named all my cities Deorcnysse? Would they all get screwed up?

No, it is not the naming scheme on the city. It is what I suggested before... but after looking deeper into the problem is the problem not fixed in 1.5?

Edit: I just ran an experiment and I did not get the bugged out Deorcynsse. Seems that there may be a fix in place now. I still think the defenders for the city are really really weak since a starting army can take the city no matter the level. Might I suggest we add some other defenders at higher levels to make it a little more difficult to take.

I think I am using the latest version. I only bought the game a few weeks ago on Steam.

1.5 was released on November 25, so you are probably running 1.5 game. This problem has cropped up several times, and I don't think anybody truly knows what causes it. I've been able to reproduce the effect a long time ago, but these few tests I've done recently I've not been able to reproduce the level 9 village bug.
