Start8 Update & Modern Mix

All of my users responded to the update pop-up and duly installed Start8 1.3.  However, nobody seemed to notice the filled-in check box which also installed Modern Mix.

I know this is a good marketing method, but would it not be possible for admin's (such as myself) to have the option to change the checkbox default to un-ticked.

We really do not want our users installing what could be considered stealthware.

I will pass on your concerns to the people who make those decisions.

I would have thought it would be possible to make it at least have a registry setting which disables that.

The installer from the update page will no longer show the cross-sell by default. You can also set DisableCrossSell=1 at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock going forward. The Start8 installer on the store and the update page has been updated to support that now, but only for downloads after this post was made.

I wholeheartedly agree with the OP. ModernMix is an amazing piece of software. But I've got about 50 clients running Start8, none of whom want or need ModernMix. These same clients are very likely to plow right through the update dialog box without even noticing the "Also install ModernMix" checkbox.

Instead of an easy-to-miss checked-by-default checkbox, it would be much better to have a proper dialog box with a "No thanks. And please don't ask me again" option.

At the very least, a registry key to supress the checkbox would be very handy for admins such as myself.

As mentioned above the latest builds should no longer be offering the other software as long as they are obtained from the update page.
