[0.85 Suggestion] Axes and the Great Axes trait

Currently we have only have two handed axes (single axes and dual axes are two handed).

This gives spears with the defensive trait such an advantage. Right now with the defensive trait, I can have spearmen that are immune to counter, can impale, piece armor and hit 2 targets or hit a target 2 squares away, and use a shield to give me defense and more dodge.

In contrast, great axes trait gives me dual wield axes that does slightly more damage (burning axe damage 9, dual burning axes damage 11). No shield, no armor penetration (but can be considered a wash with the higher damage over the spear), no counter immunity and cleave is a wash with impale.

Please either make normal axes one handed again, or make great axes offer one handed variations like defense makes spears one handed. Right now, there is no reason not to choose the defensive trait above other weapon traits for pure stats.

In some incarnation, I would like to see one handed axes back in the game to offset the one handed spears. Please consider this.

I'd like to see throwing axes, an improvement over throwing knives.

I think Axes the way they are now is meant to Balance the very effective Cleave skill.  Unlike the Spear's Impale, Cleave offers more opportunities for use as Spears can be tricky to line up for Impaling.   Throwing Axes would be a nice addition, but I think 2-Handed Axes are here to stay.

End of BernieTime's quote

I actually mainly use Impale to poke enemy units when my spearmen are trapped behind lines of friendly units because of really narrow tactical combat maps and all my higher-initiative units starting out behind my lower-initiative ones, making their turns essentially wasted.

Actually hitting multiple enemies isn't something that seems to happen very often. with Impale. But BernieTime is right, Cleave is much better than Impale for the most part, so that's the offset to the "Great Axes" trait.
