What {imaging} software do you use?

I'm curious. What imaging software do you use to make your skins? With my first skin (that I can't upload because IE keeps giving me 404s and I don't trust Mozilla because it gave me ASCII output when I tried to download earlier) I used MSPaint, because it's all I've got. So what do you use and (this is pretty much the real question) can I get it free? Yeah I've looked at Tucows and Download.com but there's just too much stuff and I have no idea what's good and what's not. Plus I'm on a 56k connection so I can't just go download everything and dele what isn't good

You can make any paint program work. Some are free(gimp) while others cost.($80-$600+). Go with what you know or can afford. Crazy browser is good and free. Don't use it anymore since I have Skinbrowser.

Let's see if you are looking for a free one, try The Gimp http://www.gimp.org/
It has bit of a learning curve though.

Eh...learning curve...don't care about that. Love software with a learning curve. If it doesn't have one then it may not be worth it. Take paint and my skin that I guess uploaded after all...or, should I say, the skin I just deleted?

Yes But the person who commented (slipped my mind...) was completely right. It was a rather dumb thing to upload and a waste of the two people's time who downloaded it, as well as the ( ) 30 mins I spent on it. Right now I am DLing GIMP and I'm going to work on a real skin. Perhaps a Psudo OS, since I've always wanted to create an OS but...wow...it's hard.
However, you can see my feeble attempts at a command shell here: http://nucos.sourceforge.net

PSP rocks my world!

The Gimp is your best choice for a free software. It's got everything Photoshop ($800) got, except CMYK. But unless you're going to do print work you don't need it. But it is just as hard as Photoshop to learn. Take your time nucos, take a few weeks to learn it. Practice and follow some of the many tutorial available on the net (just search for "GIMP tutorial" in Google).

I tried the gimp, and it is hard to use.

I started out with these two...

Image Forge, and Ultimate Paint respectivly. Image forge only costs around $30 if you want to upgrade. I like it for the animations, and because the people are nice. I still use it over PSP sometimes. Ultimate Paint is OK. There used to be one called Satori... It looked real good, but I never could understand it.

I now use GIMP. Love it. It's going to be weeks and weeks before I get any skins up, though. Partially because I'm lazy and creating websites with ScriptFu
