Dreams stop running

Hi All,

I've recently purchased and installed Windows 8, to make it complete I also purchased Start8 and on a whim, grabbed DeskScapes as well. Start8 is a fantastic peice of software, responsive and stable.

I have a problem with DeskScapes, I will start an animated 'dream' running, it will work perfectly for a while then drop me back to my Windows wallpaper. I've timed it on a couple of occasions and it stopped running after ~20 minutes on the shortest and ~45 minutes on the longest run. I accept I may have a slightly abnormal setup but the fact it does work perfectly to start leads me to believe my setup should be supported.

I have tested it with the onboard HD4000 graphics disabled and I have the same issue.

Let me know if there are any logs I can look at or if you need more info,

Cheers!

My Specs:

  • Intel i7 3770K @ 4Ghz
  • ASRock Extreme 4 Motherboard
  • 16GB RAM
  • Samsung 840SSD (OS drive) + a number of other hard drives
  • Radeon 5870 running 3 monitors (2x DVI, 1x Active Displayport to DVI adapter)
  • Onboard Intel HD4000 running 2 monitors (1x DVI, 1x HDMI)

Any animated dream (video, dynamic, hybrid) or one in particular?  Also, does this happen after a screen saver may have started?

Is this what you mean when you say you have a 'slightly abnormal setup' or are there other details:

'Radeon 5870 running 3 monitors (2x DVI, 1x Active Displayport to DVI adapter)'

Hi Sean,

It's any animated dream, I've tried both the ones that come with Deskscapes and a couple of downloaded ones. I have no screensaver and the power options are set to switch off the displays after 2 hours.

It's the Radeon running 3 monitors combined with the HD4000 running another 2 which I was considering slightly abnormal. :-)

Are you using a Microsoft account vs a local login?

If so are you logging in via another machine as that could reset the wallpaper on the account and so the next time it syncs it would be reset back to a static wallpaper.

You certainly have a lot of monitors!, but it shouldn't be causing this problem.

I'm using a Microsoft account to log in but this is my only Windows 8 machine. I've just switched off all the sync settings and will test Deskscapes later this evening, currently RDP'd to my main machine.

This machine is used for both coding and gaming, the three monitors on the Radeon can be set to Eyefinity for surround gaming with the HD4000 switched off. When working, I have four monitors on the desk and one on the wall for TV/films/background stuff etc. Can never have too much desktop real estate when programming!

Thanks for your help, hopefully switching off the sync settings will fix the problem.

I've tested this again after disabling all syncing and it's still stopping after some indeterminate amount of time, any other ideas?
