Start 8 Does Not Open to Desktop

I am running Start8 1.14 on my ASUS Q2OOe Laptop and even though I have Start8 set to open to the desktop on boot it doesn't always do that. About 4 times in 5 cold starts it remains at the start screen and I have to click on the desktop tile to get there. If I reboot from 'Restart' it seldom happens.

Does anyone else have this problem?

What can I do about it?

Thank you.

I have a similar issue when signing in after another user has signed out. Start8 does not appear to be running. The start screen appears instead of the desktop, and there is not a start menu on the desktop. After a delay of 3-4 minutes, clicking on the Start8 options menu will cause it to run normally again. This seems not to be a problem if a user signs out, and then the same user signs in again. I'm running Start8 on a new Dell Inspiron desktop with little added so far. The version is Start8 1.12.

I've just installed v1.12, & it looks like I now have the same problem as you describe. Prior to installing this "new" version, I haven't seen the Start Screen since installing Start8.

What version did you have before?

I just purchased the 1.12 version today and it still doesn't boot to the desktop.  And it doesn't help

that I'm a novice. :-(  From all the raves about this little magic program I'm surprised.  What's

the next step?  Plus, how can I get the password off the start up screen - very annoying for my

home pc.  Thanks for any help.

Does it go to the Desktop after you sign in with your password?

Yes it does, but I thought from reading the materials, it would go there immediately and bypass all the "junk" from Windows 8.  It doesn't help

that I've had to jump from XP to 8 ... big sigh.

That has nothing to do with Start8.

It is the normal Windows 8 behavior.

There are probably a few things you can do to avoid using a password on your computer.

But the easiest way (in my opinion) is to go to Start > Run and type: control userpasswords2

Or Start > control userpasswords2

Under the "Users" Tab, deselect "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer".

It will prompt for a password once only.

Tip: You can also right click the Start8 button and select "Run" if you don't have "Run" enabled in the Start menu.
