I am frustratade...

Today, I couldn't post one of the most fantastic windowblinds skin I ever saw because it is a port and didn't included the permission (even that was gave the original author the cradits for the inspiration).

So, if you are making a port, be sure to have the permission granted before uploading the skin.

I really hope that she can have this permission soon.

Now you've gotten me intruiged, Renato.
I hope this person gets permission, so we can see the skin.

Well, Mark, this is up to her, she can allways post a screenshot, since she doesn't need a permission for that.

I am confident that she will have it, the skin is too good and if I were the original authors I would never decline the permission, since she was very faithful to his pixels.

I have found it very easy to get permission. People just want to feel their hard work is respected in general. I just ported a Warcraft skin I liked and all I had to do was send a simple email BEFORE I got started on the port and within a day or so they'd responded.

And there's a bonus in asking for permission, you get to meet interesting people from all over the world. The guy who made the Warcraft skin was from China which is pretty darn cool.

Wow - if treetog's impressed, this really has to be something!

I've ported work from various authors and have not been rejected so far.
I try to be polite and most people are delighted to help in exchange for recognition (and quite rightly too)

I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank all those that have helped me.

I don't understand what porting is. It sounds like one skin is coming through another somehow.

GM...it's about adapting an existing wall or skin 'style' and graphics to a different skin...only really referred to as a 'port' when it's being done by someone other than the original artist/skinner.
If you 'port' your own work to another app, it's more a 'suite'...

really curious about what Treetog was talking about. must be impressive. could you tell us who the author of the original is?

ohhh even more impressive than MIIG and Universal Metal?

/me still thinks Universal metal & MIIG for WBlinds is da best for the meantime

I guess I'm still a newbie, but what exactly is a port?

Joe, you are supposed to be studying... now get back to it!

OK since you are determined. If you made a WB skin for example and posted it here. I might make some changes to it that I think would look better or perform better. I would send you an email, as it was your work to beign with, asking for permission to post it here at WC. You could either grant or deny permission for me to post the "port".

Man, I can't wait to see this skin!!! On the topic of porting, Asking permission is best, but how many have ported something for thier own personal use. (Not uploading, of course) I ported the Pixtudio Windowblind and added XP, I haven't uploaded a SS or asked permission because I know that it will probaly get turned down, since thier still making money off of the suite. I posted a note about it in another message board, next thing I know I'm getting 15 to 20 e-mails a day asking for it. I even had some people say they got pixtudio's permission, for me to send it to them. (NO) I'm not that gullable and no I haven't sent it. I finally, stopped answering. It just goes to show how low people will get. I'm starting to rant, so I'll go. Take care!!!

moshi: the the port was made by Patricia, aka APB

Z71: check your mail

thanks Renato. APB is a top notch skinner, so i am sure the quality will be very good, but i was more intersted by the name of the author of the original. i gave up WindowBlinds, because Illumination is the better way for me, so i´ll have to port this myself when i like it (there aren´t too many Illumintion skinners around)

here is the screenshot of the skin. https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?searchtext=Alien+Mind&sort=Skin&order=Descending&library=13&action=1

She is having problems to contact the original author, so any help would make her very happy.

Now that is a nice skin.

This time that emoticon says OHHHHHHHHHHHHH! What happens if the original author cannot be found? This is a beautiful skin!

If the original author cannot be found it should not be posted. Look at how many times we have told StyleXP people off for doing exactly that. I am sure APB will do the right thing. It would be a real shame if it doesn't get posted but a variant using original graphics could be created instead. It's a nice looking skin. I hope that she manages to get permission.
