I am questioning some design choices

Hi!

I like FE, but there's some things that are simply BAD in my opinion:

A) no option to flee from combat - this is especially annoying because for one I think the idea behind it is that you don't venture too far from your territory with unexperienced/low units. I could accept that, but how on earth does the AI do it? Always there's units and scouts moving past drakes and all kinds of things w/o dying. I usually get attacked very quickly. No matter what faction they are.

B) city destroyed => cannot found on same spot again - wtf? did the space go bad? Again I could understand it, if it was meant as a restriction not to settle near dangerous creatures until you have the means to defeat them. But again, the AI settles like crazy, all around the world, next to monsters I couldn't even dream of killing.

C) on option for permadeath for heroes.... beam me up scotty, et voilá I am safe at my town again....

that's about it I think for now.

cheers,

A- you just have to be careful about the battles you engage in.  Know thine enemy.

B- Yeah this has been debated.  Creatures should no longer salt the earth, however.  Only if the city is destroyed by an AI faction.

C- Trust me this is a good design choice.  If heroes perma-died the AI would be at a HUGE disadvantage.

I think there should be an ability that allows you to capture and imprison heroes if you have a prison, then ransom them back.

If you or the AI don't feel like paying to get your hero back, then you can find the prison and take the city by force. ;)

I'd be happy if Heroes went into a limbo upon defeat instead of pushing cities beyond their stacking limits.  After their 5 turns have passed, let them reappear in a city somewhere.  If this were to happen I'd be more inclined to sacrifice weaker stacks of units to try and take out a champ or two before sending in the big stack to sack a city.

There are options to flee combat.

Escape scroll and escape spell. I haven't figured out how to get Book of the Winds reliable (I think it's RNG), but you get that and the eagles eye spell in the magic research tree.

C) on option for permadeath for heroes.... beam me up scotty, et voilá I am safe at my town again....
End of quote

Yeah this is kinda bad. On the offensive you get into a zone where you keep killing the same resurrecting heroes/sovereign for tons of xp, and they are annoying as well. There should be some sort of limit etc. but I think they are redesigning the whole system in the next xpac.
