Win XP Skinners please read!

Please note that on WinXP, when your computer is part of a network domain, you don't get that cool little picture on your start menu (to the left of your name). When creating your WB skins, please keep this in mind. Don't add borders for a picture that may not be there.

Good point.

Yeah, but the borders look so cool when you *do* have the picture.

A combo skin would provide the best of both worlds, of course.

I never do. Tarkus is right, adding a sub-design with support for domain computers (or vise versa) is the best solution.

I just edit the start pane of the preferred skin. It's not sooo hard to do...

Another thing you can do, (and I've done this) is to go to the skin folder, open the bitmap for the border using any graphics editor and cut and paste a little picture inside the border. Then reload the skin.

Darimar, ever considered that the skinners who do leave the borders may actually (Shock horror!!) create the skins for themselves?
Skinning is a hobby, not a service.

Hippy, I don't disagree. However, if your sole concern is pleasing yourself, why share your creation in the first place?

My intent here isn't to dictate skinning policy, by the way. I'm simply pointing out something that many might not be aware of. Use this knowledge as you will.

In the mean time, I'll continue making my own personal modifications, as c242 and motion pointed out.

You know what? I am not sure, I agree with Darimar but also with Hippy, both of them are right, maybe Tarkus have the best point.

It's true that the start menu looks terrible on a domain if the graphics are designed for having a user pic. I've been trying to find a way to get around this with no success. The suggestion above to include a 'domain' version of the skin is a very good one. The only graphics that would be different would be the top panel so it wouldn't add anything to the skin file in size. Excellent idea Tarkus...

If you're going to share your skin, you'd think you'd at least want it usable. I think adding a sub-design isn't too big a request. Skinning is a hobby, not a service, but displaying your work means making it accessable.
