Can I upgrade a trained unit size after I research Cooperation?
I just gained "group" from researching Cooperation. Is there some way to increase my already-trained units' size from three to four?

No. It's been asked for, but there's been no word about adding it.
Okay, good to know at least. I'll stop looking for it in the UI. ![]()
You can modify ElementalDefs.xml to do it....
<!-- Unit grouping type upgrades -->
<EnableUpgradeGroup>1</EnableUpgradeGroup>
<UpgradeGoldCostPerTroop>10.0</UpgradeGoldCostPerTroop>
You can even use it to up the group size of some quest units. It will give you an "upgrade" option just like weapons and armor though. The exploit could be building strong units at size 3 and getting a relatively cheap, fast upgrade.
Uprgading the size of the unit should really be a standard feature once the appropriate tech has been learned. However, to provide balance the level of the unit should decrease as the veteran unit has taken on new recruits.
I don't understand why level should decrease for upgrading unit size as opposed to upgrading equipment. Both of them make your unit more effective.
Because any time you add new recruits to a veteran unit, you debase the unit's experience.
That's not a balance argument.
Also, damaged units replenish with presumably new troops when they heal.
Well, then there's really no issue -- if you modify your ElementalDefs as above, then you can upgrade and it doesn't affect level.
An argument is that you have raised the amount of soldiers that must work together... take a group of 6 people who know how to work together and function as a complete unit... add in 3 more people in that group... the 9 man group doesn't function as well as the 6 man group alone did.
