shadows which you see on XP desktop...hmm...behind the shortcut lables right>?
the shadows are created by a API which is in XP but not 98.

Nope. Sorry.
Icons in prior versions than XP have only 1 color transparency. XP introduced 256 levels of transparence therefore making see-through shadows possible. Not in any other version of Windows.

Hey, there is an opption for you, is to use a desktop replacement program than does support 8 bits transparency, such as Desktop X or Litestep. If you're a newbie I suggest Desktop X.

but all this alpha-transparency will only work in 2000 or XP. not in 98. the only program that supports alpha-transparency under Windows98 is Rainlendar (Rainy rocks )

Desktop X will work in 98 too, with alpha channels.
